Chapter 40

• Lucas paced about his enormous living room as he watched the clock. It was 2 am and Scarlett was yet to return from school. Her phone was switched off and he wondered where she could be.
• He was especially concerned because she was pregnant and was probably hurt or had been kidnapped. He knew that she had received some threats because of him, and he prayed silently that she was not in danger.
• His phone rang and he hurriedly answered it. It was Daniel, his detective friend on the line. "Any news?" Lucas asked in haste. Daniel was quiet for a while. "I suggest you stay calm for now while we do our job," he finally said. "For now, please send me a photo of what her car looks like and the plate number on it," he demanded before he ended the call abruptly.
