Chapter 9 Big Boss, Not A Beggar!

  • Diamond Galaxy is a major hospitality and restaurant company. Founded two decades ago, the company has grown to become one of the leaders in the industry, known for its superior quality of services and products.
  • The company owns and operates a number of luxury hotels and restaurants in strategic locations across several cities. Today, Naomi, who is in control of the company, inevitably has to be active in reviewing how the business is doing. One of the things she did this afternoon was to survey Galaxy Restaurant with her secretary.
  • The survey they conducted was completed an hour ago. Previously, the restaurant manager, knowing that Naomi would come, deliberately prepared a large number of VIP meals. Because they were not eaten and Naomi was afraid it would be a waste, she asked the waiter to wrap the remaining food for her to eat later at the hotel.
  • However, an unexpected event surprised her. While Naomi was waiting for the wrapped food to be ready, she instead saw Danny with his new girlfriend enter the restaurant.
  • Danny and Rebecca arrived at one of the city's fancy restaurants. This place was one of Rebecca's favorites, with elegant interiors and outstanding service. They sat at a pre-booked table in a quiet and romantic corner. They held hands, no longer hesitant to make their relationship public. Naomi just snickered at the sight.
  • She wasn't jealous, just feeling stupid for spending two years living with that man, a loser who can't be independent.
  • "Naomi, what are you doing here?" Danny greeted Naomi while she was daydreaming. She had no chance to dodge or run away.
  • "Honey, how stupid of you to ask that." Rebecca joined Naomi and Danny in the conversation. "Of course, she came here for lunch."
  • Danny just chuckled, as if that was the most impossible thing Naomi could do in a fancy restaurant like this. "Are you applying for a job or what?" Danny's uncertainty was clearly shown by his question.
  • "Nothing," Naomi replied. "I just had a quick errand earlier."
  • "Danny!" Rebecca shook the man's arm. "If you want to talk, I'll find another place."
  • "Yes... yes." When his girlfriend sulked, Danny seemed unable to resist her wishes.
  • Rebecca was possessive of Danny; she always disliked and hated whenever Danny talked to Naomi. "Naomi, I'm getting married to Rebecca. The event is in two weeks; I'll invite you." Danny said that, intending to look for a sad and hurt expression from Naomi after being officially abandoned by him.
  • However, what Danny found was the opposite. Naomi was still able to smile, and she said, "Well, congratulations. I'm glad you guys finally got married too."
  • Rebecca sarcastically replied, "Indeed, we are getting married! What do you think my relationship with Danny has been?"
  • If Naomi had said Rebecca was the mistress of her household, it would have sparked an uproar that could have ruined the restaurant's reputation. So, she chose to be discreet.
  • "You guys do match." Naomi's faint smile made Rebecca even more upset.
  • "And, I don't want to stay here any longer!" Rebecca complained.
  • "My party will be very fancy; it will be held at Building X. I'll send you the date and time later." Danny was still not content to break Naomi's heart.
  • "Okay." Naomi didn't show any overreaction to their conversation. "I'll just wait for your invitation."
  • "Since I know what your economic situation is, you don't even need to bring a gift." Danny still thought that his wife was a poor person, an orphan, who didn't have anything like she used to. "Just showing up is enough to make me happy."
  • Naomi leered at him. "Thank you, you still care about my situation."
  • Rebecca rolled her eyes. Having had enough of Naomi who never took insults to heart, she chose to leave.
  • Danny pointed at Naomi. "You're still arrogant, Naomi. If you come to my wedding later, I'm sure you'll cry tears of blood!"
  • Naomi wanted to laugh. This was truly the most dramatic performance she had ever seen, more than any movie or telenovela.
  • "I'll prepare a special and unforgettable gift for you later."
  • Danny cursed and turned to follow Rebecca. On his way, he saw a waitress approaching Naomi with several large bags of food.
  • "Ma'am, this is the food you asked for," the waitress said.
  • Naomi accepted them. "Thank you."
  • 'Food?' Danny thought to himself. 'Has Naomi been here all this time just to get food?'
  • Naomi had left the restaurant. Danny sat with Rebecca, choosing a menu. However, the scene of Naomi receiving several bags of food lingered in his mind.
  • "Excuse me, do diners in this restaurant often get food to go?" Danny asked the waitress who had just served them.
  • "Although we provide a food packing service, usually people finish their food here. As you can see, our concept is to sell the ambience and warmth of the restaurant. If you take it to go, you might miss out on the aesthetic element of the food."
  • Danny nodded slowly. "But, I saw a visitor receiving a wrapped meal earlier."
  • "Oh, that was an inspection by the company that runs this restaurant. The owner took a look around. Since the amount of food served was quite large, he asked for it to be wrapped."
  • "The owner of the restaurant?" Danny's eyes widened.
  • However, before he could get any further explanation, the waitress excused herself to attend to her next task.
  • "What are you thinking about?" Rebecca asked.
  • "No, it's... uh." Danny was at a loss for words. "Earlier, I saw Naomi wrapping the food here and just now the waitress said that they had a visit from the owner of the restaurant, and the owner asked for the food to be wrapped."
  • Rebecca snorted. "I heard that too. You don't need to explain it again."
  • "I mean, is the owner Naomi?" Danny asked.
  • Rebecca laughed. "Does it make sense that Naomi owns this restaurant?"
  • Danny couldn't come up with an answer.
  • "This restaurant has been around for 20 years. If it was Naomi's, you wouldn't be a regular office staff with that cheap car you have now." Rebecca's words were quite hurtful, but that was the fact.
  • If Naomi was rich, how could Danny have never found out during their two years of marriage?
  • "Your ex-wife must have been an errand girl," Rebecca emphasized. "She was just a maid who brought her boss's things. You just don't understand that."
  • Danny smiled awkwardly. "Yeah, you're right. Naomi can't possibly own this restaurant. She must be an errand girl."
