Chapter 4 Take That!

  • The next day, I received a message from the bank informing me that my corporate credit card had been activated. This card was part of my rights as the company's heir, and it gave me access to the company's funds. The balance on it was in the hundreds of billions of dollars, an amount I had never imagined before.
  • This is my chance to prove myself that I am not someone to be underestimated!
  • Alright, to start preparing myself for the company, it looks like I need some new clothes. I've decided to go buy some new clothes after breakfast.
  • ***
  • “Welcome, Miss, how can we help you?” I heard the saleswoman greeting someone who came in. Why didn't she say hello to me earlier? Never mind, I didn't bother. Perhaps, they were too busy running the store. I continued walking. At the moment, I was at XX clothing store, a store famous for selling both local and international branded clothing. The prices offered were quite fantastic. At the very least, an ordinary-looking T-shirt could cost 3000 dollars. I looked at the clothes on display, letting my eyes soak in the details of each piece. When I touched a long-sleeved silk blouse, someone reprimanded me.
  • I looked at the clothes on display, letting my eyes soak in the details of each piece. When I touched a long-sleeved silk blouse, someone reprimanded me.
  • “Ouch, ma'am, don't handle it carelessly!” a saleswoman reprimanded in a slightly raised tone. Her name was Amelia.
  • I was surprised and withdrew my hand. “Sorry,” I said, feeling embarrassed. “I was just interested in the design of this shirt.”
  • Amelia glanced me up and down, as if assessing whether or not I could afford the clothes in this shop. “This is not the right place for you, maybe you entered the wrong store,” she said in a dismissive tone.
  • "I didn't enter the wrong store. In fact, I plan to buy some clothes here,” I said in a calm voice.
  • Amelia didn't believe me. She looked at me skeptically, then said, “You know that the clothes in our shop are very expensive, right? Maybe you can find another shop that suits your budget better."
  • With a calm face, I replied, “Don't worry, if there are suitable clothes, I'll buy them.”
  • Amelia snorted. She didn't seem to believe that I could buy clothes here.
  • “What kind of clothes are you looking for?” Amelia, who had to do her job, asked me.
  • "I'm looking for formal wear that can still look casual. Can you help me?"
  • After sighing, she said, “We have some collections that might match your criteria,” though still with a hesitant tone. “Follow me.”
  • Amelia led me to the women's formal wear section. There, various types of blazers, shirts, pants, and skirts of various colors and styles were displayed. Some of them looked very elegant and formal, while others had a casual touch that made them look more relaxed.
  • “Here are some options that you might like,” Amelia said, showing some of the clothes. "But, since these clothes are expensive, just look at which ones you like. Don't handle them, let alone try them on in the fitting room."
  • I knitted my eyebrows. “It's not like the visitors who came earlier can't try on the clothes in the fitting room.”
  • Amelia rolled her eyes. “Ugh, ma'am, that one's a regular!” she said. "They even have VIP membership cards, which means that if they try them on, you won't lose money. What if you ruin the clothes? Will you be able to replace them?"
  • I still refrained from letting her speak further.
  • "Do you know the price of this shirt?" Amelia pointed at the shirt carefully and asked. “One Thousand dollars! Imagine if it gets dirty or damaged. My salary wouldn't be enough to replace it."
  • "Okay." Too lazy to argue, I tried to understand that this was Amelia's job.
  • I took another look at the collection of clothes. My first choice was a draped silk blouse from a well-known brand. It looked simple yet elegant. It was white with drapery details on the front that made it look unique. The silk material looked luxurious and comfortable to wear.
  • "I want this one, is there a size M?" I asked.
  • Amelia checked and confirmed it was a size M. I thought it was settled, just needed to pay. However, a visitor who had just arrived grabbed the blouse I was about to buy.
  • "Excuse me, has this blouse been ordered?" she asked.
  • "Miss Montgomery?" Amelia suddenly turned very friendly. "No, it hasn't been ordered yet. Would you like it?"
  • The woman immediately nodded. "Actually, I've seen it before, but I wasn't quick enough."
  • "Ah, no, Miss. It hasn't been bought yet."
  • "Who said it hasn't been bought yet?" I protested.
  • "Ma'am, you probably just want to look around out of curiosity. Miss Montgomery is already an official customer. Please, Ma'am, respect my work!"
  • "This shirt costs 2000 dollars, Ma'am," Amelia added.
  • "Hmm, I'll make her bulge her eyes later." I turned my back to her, then asked in a slightly louder voice, “Is there a saleswoman who wants to serve me? If she does, I'll give her a big bonus.”
  • Everyone was still silent. Amelia smiled dismissively. I waited a few seconds before leaving the shop, and an apprentice came up to me.
  • “I can, Ma’am!” she said.
  • I smiled at this. See how I repay Amelia's arrogance later!
  • I saw the dislike on Amelia's face when the intern named Daniah was about to help me pick out a shirt. I ignored her and asked Daniah to guide me in choosing a shirt.
  • Daniah started showing me the various shirts available. I picked out a few and tried them on one by one. Amelia was still standing there, staring with an expression of disbelief.
  • “Which shirt do you want?” Daniah asked.
  • "I need a shirt that's polite and elegant. But not too flashy either,” I said.
  • Daniah then took me to a rack of premium shirts. She showed me a selection of shirts that were neutral in color but had an elegant and refined design.
  • “I think this shirt fits the criteria you want,” Daniah said, showing me a light blue shirt with delicate embroidery.
  • I touched the shirt, considering whether or not it would suit me.
  • Daniah helped explain why it would suit me.
  • “With this light blue color, this shirt gives off the elegant and polite vibe that you want,” she said, “Also, the delicate embroidery accents make this shirt seem less flashy, but just enough to add interest.”
  • Well, she was right. I also like the embroidery details. It looked very neat and delicate.
  • “I'll take this,” I said without much consideration. "Can you also find the right trousers for me? Choose two or three similar styles."
  • “Yes, Miss.” Daniah prepared the clothes I'd ordered earlier.
  • Before completing the transaction, I asked, “Do you have a good selection of bags?”
  • “What kind of bag are you looking for?”
  • “Just get me a small bag.”
  • Daniah happily took me to the small bag section. She showed me the wide selection of small bags available, from clutches to mini sling bags to waist bags.
  • "What occasion or activity is this bag for, Miss?" asked Daniah, trying to understand my needs further.
  • "For everyday," I replied.
  • I needed a bag that would carry enough essentials like my wallet, cell phone, and a few cosmetics. During my marriage to Danny, I had never gotten a bag, even just a regular one. He always told me to use an old bag that was starting to break down.
  • However, his mother would often give him expensive and nice bags. As his wife, I was forced to give in and accept it. Meanwhile, Danny didn't care about my feelings at all.
  • Daniah showed me some options that might be suitable. There was a black mini sling bag made of leather with neat stitching details, a gold clutch with elegant glitter accents, and a practical brown waist bag.
  • "I think this mini sling bag suits your needs," said Daniah, showing me the black mini sling bag.
  • I tried putting my things into the bag and felt quite comfortable with the size. "I'll take this," I said, "Wrap it up."
  • Daniah smiled and quickly wrapped the bag.
  • "Daniah, are you done here?" Amelia, who had finished her business with the VIP customer, approached us.
  • “Yes, we're done,” replied Daniah.
  • "Amelia checked what Daniah had been handling. “What did you bring?” she asked
  • “A few shirts and a bag.”
  • Amelia didn't look pleased. “Daniah, you took most of this. What if something gets damaged?”
  • I spoke up. "I'll pay for it. Don't worry."
  • Amelia looked at me. “Ma'am, Daniah is an intern, so she's still inexperienced. This one shirt is worth five months of her salary!”
  • "I know. That's why we want to pay."
  • Amelia was still looking down on me.
  • “'Let me take care of it.” Afraid that Daniah might be taken advantage of, Amelia handled everything herself.
  • “Whatever.”
  • We headed to the cashier's desk. The items were scanned, and the total I had to pay appeared: six thousand dollars in all. Honestly, this was the biggest shopping spree I'd ever done just for shirts and bags.
  • 'Six thousand dollars, Miss. Before I remove the barcode—'"
  • I placed the black card on the counter.
  • Amelia glared. The cashier took my card and swiped it through the EDC machine. The transaction was successful, and I paid for everything.
  • "I said I'd buy it. Why don't you believe me?"
  • "I did. Um ...." Amelia suddenly stuttered and couldn't speak.
  • “Call the intern!” I said.
  • Without being called, Daniah seemed to know I wanted her to come.
  • “What is it, Miss?”
  • I handed her my cell phone. "Write down your account number. I'll give you a tip."
  • “But .....”
  • “Just give it to me,” I said. “I didn't bring cash and I promised earlier.”
  • Daniah complied at last. She wrote down the account number and I immediately sent her $500 as a bonus.
  • “I wish you could be the manager here,” I said.
  • Amelia's face turned red with embarrassment. I looked at her before leaving.
  • “If you hadn't given that shirt to someone else, I would have bought a lot more than this.”
  • Amelia could only look down. Just as I was about to walk out with all my groceries, she apologized.
  • “Come again next time.”
  • I smiled, satisfied to see her regret it.
  • Next on my agenda, I had to go to the company tomorrow.
