Chapter 5 Ex-husband Wrongly Accuses

  • The next day, I went to my family's company, Diamond Galaxy. A BMW picked me up at the hotel where I was staying. When I got there, everyone greeted me warmly.
  • I finally met Elena, the woman who had been my personal secretary.
  • She took me to a room. The spacious, classical room was dominated by brown and pastel colors, and there was an old painting. It was one of my father's favorite collections. After 13 years, it finally returned to its rightful owner.
  • I looked out the window, seeing the tall buildings rising up from my office. This felt like a dream. A very beautiful dream.
  • After I was satisfied with how my workspace looked, the next thing was to go to the main meeting room, guided there by Elena.
  • The board of directors, managers, and other staff were waiting in the room. I briefly introduced myself as the rightful heir to a company with a share value of more than 50%.
  • From that meeting, I learned the names and faces of the people who worked for my father's company.
  • After that, I had to check how the company was performing. Even if it had been cheated, in reality, my father had quite loyal people in the company. From the report I received, although I didn't understand 100%—just relying on my intuition and also Elena's help in explaining—I knew that my feelings were in good shape and that the profits in the past 5 years had doubled.
  • Seeing this report, I started thinking about organizing a social service.
  • I reached for the phone on my desk and decided to call my reliable secretary, Elena.
  • "Elena, do you have a minute?" I asked over the phone.
  • "Yes, of course. How can I help you?" replied Elena in a professional yet friendly tone.
  • "I need your help finding a suitable place for us to donate, especially in the European region. It would be best if that place could really benefit from our contribution," I said firmly.
  • "Sure, I'll work on it right away," Elena replied without hesitation.
  • I put down the phone and went back to thinking about other projects while waiting for Elena's work. I knew that she was very efficient and always reliable in completing her tasks quickly and precisely. A few minutes later, there was a knock on my office door.
  • "Come in," I said.
  • The door opened and Elena walked in carrying a thick file. She came over and placed the file on my desk. She had found a suitable place. I agreed with Elena's suggestion and left the rest to my secretary to take care of.
  • That night, when I was enjoying the quiet, my cell phone vibrated. It was a message from Danny. The contents surprised me. He talked about our divorce and said that he would be getting a promotion soon.
  • 'Naomi, you really don't want to come home again?'
  • I replied, 'No. For me, you and I are already separated. It's never okay for me to come back to you again.'
  • 'Where are you now, huh? Are you sleeping with other men to get a place to stay?'
  • My eyes suddenly stung reading that message.
  • Instead of responding to him, I asked him what his purpose was in texting me. 'If you don't have anything important to say, you can just wait for the trial.’
  • Danny's next message appeared on my phone screen: 'I'm going to get a promotion soon. I'm giving you a chance to come home. Your life will be difficult if I don't help you. Don't regret it later!'
  • The more Danny condescended, the more I knew that the best option was to separate.
  • 'I've decided, and it's final.'
  • 'Then, don't regret it if you whine about coming back later. I won't accept you anymore!'
  • Reading Danny's last message, I had enough. I didn't want to put up with his word games that were full of ego and arrogance. I pressed the power button, locked my phone screen, and placed it on the bedside table.
  • I lay down on the bed, letting my thoughts and feelings calm down. Tonight, I chose to sleep, to let all the troubles and anxieties pass with the breeze of the night.
  • I arrived at the food distribution location. It was very crowded with many people lining up to receive the free food. People of all ages, from children to the elderly, stood in long lines patiently waiting for their turn.
  • Elena and our team were there early to make sure everything went smoothly. They set up long tables filled with different types of food, from rice, bread, and fruits, to canned food and drinking water. Elena, with her ever-friendly smile, led the team deftly. She made sure everyone got their share and oversaw the distribution very efficiently.
  • I, on the other hand, sat on a chair provided near the distribution location. From where I was sitting, I could clearly see how the residents received their food gratefully. Little children ran around happily after getting their share, while the elderly smiled with relief as they received this aid.
  • As time passed, my stomach began to rumble with hunger. Seeing how much food was being distributed, I became interested in trying some. I called out to Elena, who was busy taking care of the distribution.
  • "Elena, can I get a portion of food?" I asked with a smile.
  • Elena immediately understood and quickly got a portion of food for me. She came with a plate filled with rice, vegetables, and a piece of meat. "Please, ma'am. Hope you enjoy it," she said as she handed me the plate.
  • Suddenly, Danny's car drove by. I thought he didn't see me. Apparently, he did. Danny walked over to me. His face looked serious.
  • "Naomi, what are you doing here?"
  • "I'm just enjoying my breakfast," I said casually.
  • Danny was dismissive. "You must be asking for free food!"
  • "Shame on you!" Danny added.
  • Elena was about to interrupt, but I signaled her to keep quiet and not get mixed up in my business this time.
  • "That's why, Naomi!" Danny insulted again. "I told you to go home. You've only been here a short while and you're starving, aren't you?"
  • I smiled. The next second, Elena came up to me and said that all the activities today cost about five thousand dollars.
  • "Okay, I'll pay the rest in cash." I gave Elena the money.
  • "Where did you get this much money?" Danny asked incredulously. "You sold yourself before you were legally divorced from me?"
  • I turned to him, smiled, and answered calmly, "I didn't need to use another man to get it."
  • "Tell me how you managed to get that much money so fast!" Danny seemed to insist.
  • I just shrugged my shoulders. "We're already broken up; there's no obligation for me to tell you anything!”
