Chapter 8 Can't Catch A Break
- Jadiel blinked at the sudden brightness of the sun on her face. She had lost track of how long she was in the prison. Ever inch of her hurt. Not that anyone gave a damn. Her vision adjusted and she limped toward home. She reached for Sayrah but her wolf wasn’t there. She wasn’t too worried. Whenever wolfsbane was used on her for punishment, Sayrah was dormant for days until the stuff was out of her system.
- She was amazed she hadn’t died. Leroy had dosed her every time he punished her. It was not enough to kill her but the excruciating pain it brought in addition to the welts from the silver whip had drowned her in a twisted dance of agony. She had longed for death but that, too, was denied her.
- She stopped in front of their two-story house, struggling to catch her breath. She didn’t sense anyone inside, and relieved tears slid down her face. She went inside and made it to her room, her strength giving out. She crashed to the floor and lay there spent. She felt the blood oozing from her open welts and whimpered. She had to hurry, or father would punish her again.
