Chapter 7 Surely Her Cover Wouldn’t Be Blown?!

  • Those sarcastic words made Denise regret her decision of coming to this banquet out of boredom.
  • She would love to leave now.
  • However, before she could speak, Mildred and her close friends came over. As she looked at Denise, she smiled as if nothing had happened in the bathroom just now. "Mrs. Harmon, this must be Alex's fiancée, Denise Lawson. Hello, Miss Lawson. I am Mildred Xavier."
  • At this moment, Mildred was exactly how the daughter of a rich family should be—gentle and generous. It made Denise look impolite for ignoring her.
  • Catherine quickly glared at Denise before she said to Mildred with a smile, "Mildred, just ignore her. She is from the countryside. She doesn't know how to be polite at all."
  • "It's alright, Mrs. Harmon. By the way, I heard that Miss Lawson is very talented. There is a piano on the stage, so why don't we have a friendly competition?"
  • Seeing this, Denise glanced at the woman. The widespread rumor about Denise was that she was a bumpkin from the countryside, so where exactly did Mildred hear about her being talented from?
  • Mildred was blatantly trying to humiliate her.
  • Without waiting for Denise's reply, Mildred walked directly to the piano on the stage.
  • Because the daughter of the Xavier Family was also Alex's childhood friend, everyone couldn't help but look at her.
  • She went on to play a piece that she was familiar with, and the end of her performance was accompanied by a round of applause from the crowd.
  • After she came down from the stage, she smiled. "I am afraid I wasn't particularly good. It is your turn now, Miss Lawson."
  • The toxic and fake friends standing next to Mildred also started causing a commotion then.
  • "Mildred, that was far from being 'not particularly good'!"
  • "Why are you not going to the stage, Miss Lawson? Don't tell me you can't play the piano! Isn't it funny if Mr. Harmon's fiancée can't even play the piano?"
  • A lot of people around them were looking at Denise like she was a joke at this point.
  • Chatherine, on the other hand, was so embarrassed that her gaze on Denise turned more disdainful.
  • Surprisingly, Denise smiled. "I thought it would make me look like I was here performing like I was a busker if I played the piano during the banquet. But if everyone insists, I will play."
  • After saying that, she placed her wine glass on the table and elegantly strode to the piano.
  • She even picked the same piece that Mildred played. Mildred might have wanted to make fun of her, but what she didn't know was that Denise had already passed her Grade 10 piano examination at the age of 10.
  • There hadn't been anyone who could make a fool out of Denise in her whole life!
  • As the melodic tune rang out, the people on the dance floor danced to Denise's performance, making the scene a beautiful and harmonious picture.
  • Most of the guests knew a thing or two about the piano. They could tell that Denise was a lot better than Mildred.
  • Alex, who was in the middle of receiving guests, was also stunned in place as he looked at the woman sitting in front of the piano.
  • Wearing a light blue evening dress and having her wavy hair casually draped at the back of her neck, Denise was so beautiful she took everyone's breath away as she closed her eyes and her hands glided across the keys of the piano.
  • He was among the many that was in a trance from looking at her.
  • Mildred felt as though she had been slapped hard across the face as she watched Denise. She couldn't comprehend how Denise not only knew how to play the piano, but was better than her at it.
  • Denise soon left the stage after her piece ended.
  • "You live up to your reputation, Miss Lawson. I am embarrassed!" Despite how generous Mildred sounded, her chest was about to explode from the rage she was holding in.
  • She couldn't believe how she had lost to a country bumpkin.
  • "You are pretty good yourself, Miss Xavier," Denise casually threw that out.
  • Right then, a middle-aged man clad in black suit came walking in their direction.
  • Denise immediately froze when she saw Andrew, the butler who worked at Lawson Manor.
  • Why is he here? Is my cover blown?!
  • When Andrew walked over to them, he didn't say anything as he glanced at Denise, and instead greeted Catherine. "Mr. and Mrs. Harmon. I am Andrew Fox, the butler of the Lawson household. I would like to extend my apology for Old Mr. Lawson's absence due to certain health complications. I am attending the banquet on his behalf."
  • Catherine immediately approached him and gushed, "I appreciate your attendance, Mr. Fox. Is Old Mr. Lawson doing okay?"
