Chapter 13 Where Is Denise?

  • "It's already 11.00PM, but Denise isn't back yet. Where has she gone?"
  • Alex was feeling thirsty and decided to head downstairs to get a drink when he heard Zoe speaking.
  • Immediately after, he heard Catherine's voice. "Uneducated and lewd, as one would expect from a country bumpkin. She must be out partying somewhere, which is why she hasn't come home!"
  • Hearing that, Alex felt puzzled, but when he thought about how she treated him yesterday, that feeling disappeared.
  • What she's doing has nothing to do with me.
  • Then, Catherine deliberately implied to him, "Alex, it doesn't matter how Denise behaves on her own. It won't be good if this gets out to the public and tarnishes your reputation. After all, many have seen her and know that she's your fiancé. I think you should cancel this engagement as soon as possible and let her leave our home. If we let this continue, something bad is bound to happen, and perhaps the Harmon Family will have to pay for it. We'll be squandered by then."
  • However, Alex replied, "Grandpa said that the engagement can only be called off after three months."
  • "We still have to wait for three months?" Catherine screeched. "It's only been a few days and I already can't stand it. It's better if you discuss this with your grandfather and quickly chase her out of our home."
  • "How about you talk to Grandpa?" He swept his eyes over his mother.
  • That instantly silenced her. If she was the one to mention this, she would definitely get a scolding.
  • Disregarding them, he went back upstairs.
  • When he entered his study, he saw that his phone was lit up on the table and noticed that he had received an unread message.
  • He opened it and saw two words, 'Save me.'
  • Seeing that it was from an unknown number, he brushed it off as a prank and ignored it. Then, he continued with his work, but he felt a little restless.
  • It was already midnight and Alex had washed up before lying in bed, but he did not feel sleepy.
  • She's still not back yet. Where is she?
  • Closing his eyes, he thought, Forget it. Why does her whereabouts concern me?
  • A few seconds later, he tossed and turned. Practically, she did not know anyone here, so she should not have anywhere or anyone to go to.
  • Then, he remembered the message he received earlier and suddenly thought of something. He found James' chatbox and opened it.
  • James had previously sent him Denise's contact number, but he did not save it on his phone.
  • It was then that he discovered that the message for help was from Denise.
  • Is she in danger?
  • He immediately sat up and dialed back, but found that the phone was switched off.
  • That instantly made him anxious. Don't tell me something really happened.
  • Putting on his clothes, Alex hurried out the door and got into his car. After giving it some thought, he decided to try his luck at the company. At least, he could ask the security guards if they knew when she had left the company.
  • When he arrived, he saw that the whole building was dark. He then found the security guard and was told, "There's something wrong with the circuit. Someone will be coming before dawn to fix it, so it won't affect working hours."
  • When asked about Denise, the security guard was stunned. "I didn't see her."
  • Frowning, Alex asked, "Did she come to work?"
  • "I saw her coming for work this morning, but I didn't see her get off work."
  • The security guard firmly added, "I'm very sure that I didn't remember wrongly."
  • After all, Denise was the hottest topic in the entire company recently, so many people kept their eyes on her. Therefore, if she had gone past the security guard, he would definitely remember her.
  • If she did not get off work, this meant that she was still inside, but why did she message Alex for help?
  • The security guard thought about it and added again, "That's right. Today, I heard some of them say that the head of the secretary department arranged a lot of work for her and that she would be working overtime until late. Could she have fallen asleep inside the office?"
  • Not bothering to think much about it, Alex went up to take a look. Following behind him was the security guard, who helped to light the way.
  • "Denise?"
  • "Denise!"
  • Alex called out a few times but did not get a response.
  • It was not until he got to Denise's desk that he saw her bag remaining on her desk. Then, he looked down and saw a pair of feet.
  • He immediately squatted down while the security guard pointed his torchlight toward the desk.
  • Under the illumination of the torch, Alex saw Denise all curled up into a ball and her face was ashen to the point where her body was trembling.
