Chapter 16 Women Magnet

  • Not bothering to think about it, Denise quickly carried the stray to the vet.
  • Although she had lunged over to save the dog, its front legs were still injured after being hit by the car.
  • Noticing the time, she saw that she would definitely be late for work, which prompted her to call Alex after a moment of thought.
  • "What's the matter?" His low and clear voice came from the other end.
  • "Something came up. I'll be a little late to work." She applied for a day's leave.
  • Before she finished, she was interrupted by his voice. "You don't have to tell me about such trivial things."
  • Once he finished, he impatiently hung up.
  • With pursed lips, she thought, That guy is such a cold person. He doesn't even speak more than he needs to.
  • Anyway, she had already applied for leave, so she asked the vet to give the stray dog a thorough checkup. It was fortunate that it only suffered minor injuries without much serious consequences.
  • "Can it be hospitalized for further observation?" she asked worriedly.
  • The doctor smiled. "No problem."
  • After paying two thousand for the dog's vet fees, she left it at the hospital and decided to wait a few days for it to completely heal before finding it a dog-loving adoptive family.
  • Once she was done with all that and hurried to Harmon Corporation, it was almost 11.00AM.
  • "So, you do know you have a job. Look what time it is!" The moment Denise stepped into the secretary department, she saw Selina storming toward her.
  • "Something came up," she calmly explained.
  • "Something came up?" Selina sneered as her sarcastic gaze landed on Denise's figure. "I'd say, Denise. You're already skipping work on the second day. Do you really think you're a young madam?"
  • Faced with Selina's accusations, Denise maintained a stoic expression. "Firstly, I'm late, not skipping work. Second, I did apply for leave, so I'm not late."
  • "How dare you make excuses! When did you apply for leave with me?!" While pointing at Denise, Selina became even more furious. "Denise, you skipped work without a reason. You're fired!"
  • Feeling the deep hatred from the woman before her, Denise calmly pushed Selina's finger away as her lips curled into a sarcastic smile. "I notified Mr. Harmon, but you fired me because I was late. Is it because you think Mr. Harmon has no right to approve my leave?"
  • Having been retorted by Denise, Selina felt embarrassed and she pulled Denise toward the president's office. "You're spouting nonsense! Let's find Mr. Harmon and get to the bottom of this!"
  • "Sure," Denise agreed.
  • We can also settle last night's score there.
  • While she pulled Denise toward the president's office, Selina used her other hand to tidy up her appearance and touch up her makeup before knocking.
  • In comparison with her, Denise could be considered haggard.
  • In order to save the stray dog, her originally clean and neat formal dress was now wrinkled as her chest area was dirtied from the mud on the stray.
  • Looking at the shy and adoring expression that subconsciously appeared on Selina's face, Denise finally understood why Selina saw her as a target.
  • Selina likes Alex.
  • And I just happen to be Alex's fiancé.
  • No wonder Selina sees me as an eyesore.
  • "Come in." Alex's voice came from the other side of the door. Then, Selina revealed a dazzling smile as she pushed the door open.
  • Right after they entered, the smile on Selina's face froze.
  • Denise looked carefully and saw that a woman was standing beside Alex.
  • She had chestnut-brown, wavy hair and was wearing a red short dress with delicate makeup, which looked fashionable and unpretentious.
  • Isn't that the woman who almost ran into the stray dog and scolded me this morning?
  • "Mr. Harmon, this is the main product we'll be promoting next season…"
  • The woman was leaning closely toward him and a trace of unnoticeable admiration flashed across her attractive almond-shaped eyes.
  • It was then that Denise realized the woman was an employee at Harmon Corporation. No wonder she felt familiar. Judging by her behavior, she must be another one of Alex's admirers.
  • How many admirers does this man have?
  • Slightly frowning, Denise looked at the mighty man with an unfriendly gaze.
  • He was wearing a black Armani handmade suit, which perfectly showed his figure. Along with his sword-like eyebrows, tall nose, thin sexy lips, and noble temperament, he was like God's perfect creation.
  • Indeed, this man was handsome and rich, so he had the capital to have many women fall for him.
  • However, those women did not include Denise.
  • She was not interested in arrogant men who were constantly attracting other women.
  • Forget it. Our relationship is nothing more than a three-month bet. Once the three months are up, we will break off our engagement.
  • No matter how many admirers he has, it has nothing to do with me.
