• I told Arietta everything she needed to know—except for Tessa West’s involvement in my mother’s murder. I still couldn’t decide if I should tell her now or wait for another day. By just looking at her reaction, it seemed like she couldn’t process everything yet. If I added the fact that the woman she considered a mother was responsible for killing Mom, it might only confuse her more.
• We were both sitting on the sofa. She stood up and went to the kitchen to get something to drink. She poured herself some water, drank it, and then exhaled heavily. She stayed standing as she returned to the living room where I was, watching every movement she made.
