Chapter 75

  • SAMANTHA'S POV
  • "Oh shit!" I jump off my bed as my eyes lock on the wall clock in the corner, one of the few assets I've been able to acquire from my job. "How did I sleep this late?" I run into the bathroom and struggle to hold my gag as I wash my body and run out. In less than five minutes I'm dressed and ready for work.
  • I hang my bag across my shoulder and head into the small living room. "Mom, I'm off to work." She doesn't answer. Since Uncle Harry died, sorry, since she killed him, she has been so withdrawn. I wonder how the death of a man that treated you so badly will throw you into depression. "Mom!" I move closer to the couch and touch her legs. There's a beer bottle hooked on her elbow, her neck is resting to the left, and her eyes are closed. She's drunk again. "Mom, wake up; you haven't been to the laundry store in almost a week now." She doesn't answer; she must have passed out last night because of her excessive drinking.
