• “Bye, darling.” Those words were so adorable but a little bit of a chill too. And that was it…those were the last words from her mom, Linda. The phone went silent.
• She had put the phone down and her hand felt like a rock. The Hospital cafeteria was full of the hum of everyone living their life, but she had this circle of silence around her, pulling her in. She sat there for a bit, looking at the stained table and the coffee smell in the air. The voice from the phone call with her mom was echoing in her mind. She heard her mom's voice, clinical, like a doctor, putting her out there in the spotlight, and she knew that her mom could see right through her too.
