• That one word SWEETHEART had now set up a blaze of hot and dangerous passion in Maddison. The terror she had of Grant, the deep exhaustion within her bones, the horror that had been building her stomach were all broken. It now turned into a white hot anger, pure and crawling up her throat. She rose up, with slow breathing. She began pacing the small room where the phone was so close to her ear that it was already hurting her.
