Chapter 7

  • Octavio pressed the small intercom panel fixed beside the massive front doors. A sharp beep echoed, and a voice responded almost immediately, asking for identification. Octavio placed his palm on the glowing square meant for scanning. A thin blue light swept across his skin, and a second later, the heavy locks clicked open. The doors shifted inward silently, like they were made to open only for important people.
  • As soon as Eena and her father stepped inside, a butler appeared from the right hallway, walking briskly toward them. His posture was straight, his suit flawless, and his face stiff as if carved from stone.
  • “Good morning, Mr. Morales,” he said, bowing his head slightly. Then his eyes shifted to Eena. “Welcome, Mrs. Castillo.”
