- Before Eena could say another word, Catalina ended the call with a hollow click that felt like it echoed through her skull. For a moment, the room fell into a strange silence, heavy and thick, almost suffocating. The kind of silence that squeezes a person’s chest until their breath feels forced.
- Eena pulled the phone away from her ear slowly, staring at the screen as though it might tell her something else, like some extra message, some explanation, or anything.
