Chapter 96 (Escaping)

• I had planned everything with Beckett. He said we should leave in the evening, that the guards were looking for me everywhere right now. But I was worried about him. What if Valerio found out? This was risky, and Valerio, the man I knew, would likely end him. But Beckett had assured me not to worry about him, that he would be fine, that he would make sure nobody saw him.
• It sounded good, but it was hard to convince my restless heart. So here I was, sitting on his bed, praying for the night to arrive quickly.
• Although he was right, I didn’t think Valerio was around. If he was here, the pack would probably be turned upside down searching for me. But what if I wasn’t that important to him? Besides, I was just a pawn in his game. I smiled sadly; the truth hurt.
