Chapter 8 (Mate)
- Alpha Valerio
- “We should start going?” Eduardo nudged my elbow, pulling my attention.
- "Yeah, um…” I cleared my throat, my eyes still darting back and forth. It's strange, but I can't shake this feeling... this inexplicable connection I have towards that small figure.
- What is going on?
- "Alpha Valerio," I growled, fixing a glare at the coward standing before me. "Welcome to my pack. Don't worry, today is supposed to be peaceful, so enjoy," he sneered, shooting me a sarcastic look.
- As I watched him walk away, a dry chuckle escaped my lips. "Isn't it just so unfortunate that a proud coward like you ended up with a spineless omega as a wife?" I taunted, causing him to abruptly stop in his tracks.
- "Do you crave pups that much?" I mocked, crossing my arms and ignoring the oblivious crowd around us. "You know, I could easily put an end to her if I wanted to."
- Immediately the word rolled out from my lips, I noticed a mischievous smile appeared on his lips as he confidently stepped forward, coming to a stop right beside me. With a voice barely above a whisper, he uttered. "I ended my mate... I killed her. So tell me, what makes you think that a mere low-life omega can ever get under my skin?"
- Instantly, the smile on my face vanished, replaced by a deep frown. "Really?" I smirked, my voice dripping with sarcasm as I shot him a threatening look.
- "You won't get me off easily," he retorted, a determined glint in his eyes. With those words hanging in the air, he flashed a smug smile and confidently walked away.
- I clenched my teeth in frustration as I watched him walk away. "Hmm, the threat doesn't scare him," Eduardo muttered, coming to stand beside me. His voice was barely above a whisper as he placed his right hand on my shoulder.
- Fucking asshole!
- A mistake Alpha!
- I will come back to your case later but right now I need to find out something.
- Turning around, I spared a quick glance at Eduardo. "Go ahead without me," I muttered, my voice barely audible.
- "Huh?" He gave me a puzzled look, his face filled with confusion.
- "I need to check something," I said, patting Eduardo's shoulder who seemed confused. Without wasting any time, I swiftly turned around and hurried towards the back of the ceremony ground.
- Where could she possibly be?
- I walked forward, my steps steady and collected, as I quietly scanned the area.
- It hasn't even been a minute since she left, so where could she possibly have vanished?
- Fuck!
- I'm not familiar with the premises of this silly pack. Opening the door, I walked in. As I strode down the corridor, I immediately felt the hairs on my skin stand erect.
- What is happening?
- My heart kept pounding hard, its rhythm echoing in my chest. I could feel my pulse ticking, a steady reminder of the adrenaline coursing through my veins.
- Something is not right.
- I haven't felt like this before.
- And just then, I caught sight of the exact figure darting ahead, her steps quick and fast. Is she...? But why is she running?
- I could sense a sudden pull as if she had noticed a presence behind her. Before she could turn around, I swiftly hid behind the nearest door. Being an Alpha, my steps and speed were faster than hers.
- Not finding anyone behind her, I watched her let out a curse, but before she could turn around. I acted quickly and pulled her hand forward. As a result, she stumbled on her dress and fell right on top of me. Instinctively, my hands came to hold her still, wrapping around her waist to steady her balance.
- It's like fire meeting fire, igniting everything in its path.
- As sparks crawl down my spine, my grip on her waist tightens. My heart pounding harder, causing my eyes to glow a darker shade.
- “Mate,”
- Immediately the word flashed through my mind, I heard my wolf release a possessive growl.
- Her trembling legs could no longer bear the tension in the room, causing her to involuntarily clutch onto my shirt. And there I stood, bewildered, frustrated, and utterly stunned.
- It felt like my whole world was collapsing right before my eyes as the realization hit me. She is my mate... an omega without a wolf!
- I could sense her presence, and even though her scent resembled that of an omega, there was something indescribable about her aura…. It seems distant but yet she is a damn weak creature!
- Fuck this pairing, moon goddess!
- Her captivating heterochromia eyes locked with mine, but before she could utter a word, a piercing scream shattered the tense atmosphere. "Ma'am...!!"
- She quickly wriggles out of my grasp, taking a step back in haste. I stood there, speechless, my gaze fixed on her, a mix of confusion and anger swirling within me.
- "Aurora," she stammered, her face flushed with embarrassment before she turned to face me. "I-I'm sorry," she mumbled, her head hanging low as the intruder hastily seized her hands.
- “So sorry, Alpha Valerio. Please forgive her," the girl pleaded, her voice trembling with fear as she continued to pull my mate away from the scene.
- However, her head snapped towards me immediately at the mention of my name, but the girl persisted in pulling her away. I felt a whirlwind of emotions inside me, my mind in complete chaos. Those captivating heterochromia eyes... they left me spellbound.
- “Hey buddy,” I heard Eduardo from a distance.
- Thank goodness!
- Feeling frustrated, I let out a sigh and rubbed my earlobe. "Run a background check on her," I instructed, immediately he came to a stop beside me.
- Confused, he looked around and then back at me. "Huh? Who are you talking about?"
- “That omega,” I pointed at their retracting figures. “Run a background check on her and get me every detail by tomorrow evening,”
- Nodding he rubs his jaw in understanding, “What next?” He asked.
- “Get the car ready, we are leaving immediately,”
