Chapter 3

  • I gasped and turned to Kate. “What is he doing here?” I whispered, but before I could hear Kate’s response Hinn stepped in holding a flower in his hands.
  • “Sir, I heard what happened, I am Ivana’s friend and stopped by to see you.” He told my father and I pressed my lips together when he put down the flower on his hand on the table.
  • “Why does he have a flower in his hand?” I asked Kate in a whisper and she shrugged and whispered in my ears.
  • “I told him it was stupid to come to visit a man with a flower and he said it is the French ways, also that he could give it to you instead, but I guess he is embarrassed now and can’t do that.” Kate, who was in tears a few minutes ago, sniggered and I couldn’t help but join her. Hinn was just so adorable, unlike Robin…
  • I paused in my thoughts when I looked over at Robin and noticed he had his hands across his chest and was staring at me coldly, I rolled my eyes when he had said those words about doing what I wanted without wishing at the field I had thought of him in a new light, but I can see people don’t change easily.
  • “Ivana,” Hinn called out and glanced up at him, seeing he was waving at me. I returned it with a smile on my face. I glanced over at my father and mother who were waiting for me to tell them who this handsome man was.
  • “Dad, mom, this is Hinn Carlos,” My mother’s lips parted as she glanced at Hinn again. She had often heard me mention his name like a rhythm whenever I came back from watching his show and she had heard me praise him so much.
  • “Yes mom,” I clarified her doubts even when I didn’t hear her say a word. “It is Hinn Carlos,” I told her and glanced over my shoulder to see Robin whose brow was raised. I was sure he was also curious, just as curious as Hinn who was also staring at me with big eyes.
  • “Oh, you are the Hinn Carlos my daughter praises so much.” My father broke the silence, looking at Hinn with a glint in his eyes. I am sure he has already taken a liking to this young man, who wouldn’t fall in love with Hinn’s cuteness.
  • “Oh, I didn’t know she spoke fondly of me that way.” Hinn touched the back of his hair and flashed me those cute smiles. I smiled shyly as I could see the look on my mother who was also beaming as she squeezed my hands gently. I felt embarrassed.
  • My mother has heard me glorify Hinn Carlos, she knew how I even wanted to write a love story about me and Hinn Carlos living happily ever after and now she was amused by my cheekiness.
  • “Thank you for the flowers, but I think this should be for a girl since I am an elderly man already.” My father told him with a chuckle and Hinn scratched the back of his hair and picked the flower up with a smile, then he glanced at me and my pupils dilated.
  • I could already tell what he was about to do now and my inner goddess roared a big NO!
  • “Wait for it,” Kate whispered to me and I squinted, but the foolish Hinn smiled and turned to my parents.
  • “Then, can I give this to your daughter?” He asked and I hit my hand on my forehead, burying my face to the ground. How did a hospital become a romantic ground for Hinn Carlos?
  • I heard Robin scoff before I could hear my parents' response to Hinn Carlos, and we all turned our eyes to look at him. “Mr Philip should be resting now as he had just undergone surgery not quite long, why are you both bothering him with your childish act, you can go outside if you are here to play a romance drama.” He said coldly but his eyes were on me, like that of a devil.
  • Who made Robin a doctor? I rolled my eyes and Hinn put down the flower.
  • “Mr Philip, I am sorry, I should better leave you to rest, I am glad that you are okay now.” He told my father who nodded and my mother pulled the quilt over his shoulder for him to rest.
  • Mrs Jane, who was not in the room this whole time, just came in with the doctor and the rest of us left the room for the elders.
  • Kate linked arms with me while Hinn Carlos walked beside us. I could hear Robin’s footsteps behind us and it seemed like a ghost was glaring at me from behind and it felt so cold in this warm weather. If he was here to see his mother, shouldn’t he have been in that room and not follow us out here.
  • Anyway, seeing that he told me about my father asking for me only means he had been here earlier than I imagined and must have seen his mother, I don’t just understand Robin anymore. I shook my head, there was no time I understood him, he always changes like a chameleon.
  • “Why is Robin here?” Kate whispered, she had suddenly begun to whisper often after having the awareness of Robin’s presence and I can’t help but be amused. I thought she said she would no longer like him, but this was a body language of her obvious feelings for him.
  • “He told me he was here to see his mother, he said he made a promise to himself to see her face every day,” I whispered. It seems Kate had also influenced me and we both looked like two roadside gossips.
  • When we got to the hospital garden, Hinn, who had been silent, stretched forth the flowers to me. “Here, have this.” I glanced at the flower and hesitated.
  • “You didn’t get these flowers for me, you got it for my father.” I sputtered, folding my hands across my chest, I could see Kate staring at me quizzically.
  • “I had you in mind when I was buying then,” Hinn admitted and a smile crept up my face but I quickly hid it. “Ivana, honestly, I know this isn’t the right place to say this, but I have to tell you.”
  • Hinn was serious and I gently put down my hands as I waited for what he wanted to say. I didn’t look at Robin, but I could tell he was watching me, still with his dark devilish eyes.
  • “I felt sad when I heard from Kate that you were in tears last night because of your father’s sudden accident, I felt so relieved now I saw your smiling face again and I couldn’t get your smiling and beautiful face out of my mind after you rejected me.” Hinn’s eyes bored into mine and my heart was pounding like it was hit by a thunderstorm.
  • “Ivana, I can’t accept your rejection, I truly love you, Ivana, please be my girlfriend.” Hinn’s last words were like lightning bolts that struck my heart and it seemed everything froze and only my heartbeat could be heard.
  • It was different from when he had told me he loved me in the practice room, it was different from when I had gazed at him and declared him my prince charming the first time I watched his show. I could no longer wait for that little boy who I had only run into once, just as Kate had told me, the little boy could be a grown man and may have a girlfriend, or never recognize me.
  • Right here, right now, I see only Hinn Carlos, he was the person who would light my world, he was the one who I love, the one who doesn’t love Katherine but me.
  • “Will you be my girlfriend?” Hinn asked again and this time with a smile on his lips, like he already knows what my answer will be. I parted my lips to respond…
