Chapter 9 Unavoidable Enemy

  • Chu Meng swatted his hand away and said in all seriousness, “Young Master Situ, could you quickly tell me what you want? I'm still running for my life, and I have no time for joking around.” She had already spotted the stoic face of Situ Han's bodyguard standing in the corridor. Clearly, Situ Han had not believed their little scene just now.
  • Situ Yun looked at her serious face and held his chin with a long finger as he struck a thoughtful pose. He said, “How about this, you tell me your name and how you offended my brother, then we'll call it even.”
  • “My name is Chu Meng, I'm a magazine editor. I wanted to get an interview with your brother but when I called to make an appointment with his secretary, I was refused. So, I snuck inside. Unfortunately, your brother discovered me which was why he was trying to chase me out with his bodyguards. That's what happened.” Chu Meng spread her hands in a helpless gesture.
  • Her story had a lot of holes in it. Thankfully, Situ Yun did not ask any more questions. Throwing a glance at the bodyguard standing at the end of the corridor, he raised his eyebrow at her, “There's only so much I can help you with. How you throw him off your trail is up to you now.”
  • “Thank you,” Chu Meng slipped out of the jacket she had borrowed and handed it back to him, “I'll think of something.”
  • Situ Yun's foxy eyes crinkled as he gave her a brilliant smile, “My name's Situ Yun, remember it. We'll meet again.”
  • Ten minutes later, wearing the clothes she had bought from the cleaning lady and a large pair of sunglasses, Chu Meng walked right past the bodyguard. A big bag of rubbish completed her disguise.
  • Leaving the large building, Chu Meng dug out her phone from her purse and realized she had more than twenty missed calls. All of them were from Ye Siqi.
  • Calling her back, Ye Siqi's agitated voice shouted through the phone immediately, “Chu Meng, what have you been doing? Why haven't you been answering your phone? Two hours ago, the assistant to the President of Cheng Hao Group came to my house asking about the package. I'm guessing the person you went to bed with the other day is not just some random gigolo, but - “
  • “Situ Han.” Chu Meng completes her sentence weakly.
  • “How did you know?”
  • Chu Meng grabbed her hair in frustration, “Unfortunately, I had a confrontation with him just now.”
  • The other side of the phone was silent for several beats.
  • “I saw him pick up my name card. My current identity has probably been exposed so I plan to resign and find a place to lay low for some time.” There was currently a manhunt going on through the whole city for her, which meant that that man was pretty concerned about what had happened last night. If he finds her, he will most definitely not let her go that easily. It would be best for her to lay low for a while and wait for the whole thing to blow over before she made any more decisions.
  • “What about your aunt?”
  • “Help me to tell her that I'm going out of town for a business trip.”
  • Ending the call, Chu Meng anxiously touched her stomach. God, please let me be pregnant or else my sacrifices would have been in vain!
  • The first thing Chu Meng did when she returned to the office was to look for the chief editor to resign.
  • Lisa looked up as Chu Meng stepped into her office, “Chu Meng, you came at the right time! I have some good news for you. Cheng Hao Group called just now, apparently Situ Han has agreed to our interview. However, he specifically asked for you.”
  • Chu Meng sucked in a deep breath. She never expected Situ Han to find her so quickly. Cutting straight to the point, she said, “Lisa, I'm sorry but I can't do this interview. I'm resigning.”
  • Lisa was shocked, “You've always been doing well, why are you suddenly resigning?”
  • “My health hasn't been too good lately, I want to take some time to rest and recuperate,” Chu Meng had already thought of her excuse on her way back to the office.
  • Lisa refused to accept her resignation, “If it's for health reasons, I can get you one month's leave.”
  • Chu Meng was adamant in her decision. Seeing that she could not convince her otherwise, Lisa's face took on a stern look, “Chu Meng, I'm going to be honest with you. Situ Han will only accept an interview from you and you alone. Even if you resign, you'll still have to finish this interview first. If you insist on resigning anyway, you'll have to pay one hundred and fifty thousand to the company as the penalty fee of breaching the contract.”
  • Silently calculating the total amount of money she had in all her cards, she realized she only had one hundred and forty thousand. If she paid the money to the company, then she would be left with nothing.
  • Seeing the upset look on Chu Meng's face, Lisa handed her an olive branch, “Your performance these past two years have been excellent. The company is looking to open a new branch in Europe; if you're willing, I can recommend you. If you agree to go there, you'll be the person-in-charge.”
  • Chu Meng's eyes lit up. If she went to Europe, she would be able to escape the grasp of Situ Han. Furthermore, if she was pregnant, she would be able to raise her kid without fear of public backlash. Her lips split into a wide smile, “Lisa, I'll do this interview. But afterwards, I would like to go to Europe.”
