Chapter 5 Crossed The Line

  • Half an hour later.
  • Disappointment was etched all over Situ Han's face when he was updated on the progress by Sheng Tiancheng. “Do you mean you're still unable to find her identity?”
  • Sheng Tiancheng wrung his hands and shrugged his shoulders. “We only knew she came with her colleagues, no idea about her name or their company,” he explained, “So what's your plan now? Are you going to let your genes be carried around?”
  • Situ Han gritted his teeth to control his rage. How he wished he could toss this guy into the blender and squash him into meat paste. He cast him a stony glare and articulated word by word, “We'll launch a manhunt and comb every inch of town to find her.”
  • “What will you do with her after you've found her?” asked Sheng Tiancheng. Situ Han would do what he had said, given his obstinate and idiosyncratic nature.
  • A smidgen of disdain gleamed on Situ Han's face. If Sheng Tiancheng had been telling the truth, the woman was sober when she entered the room. Though she might have been blinded by the pitch-darkness, she still should have left the room once she knew about his presence. There were no excuses for her to stay in the room.
  • In other words, any decent or proper woman would not act like she did. He had seen enough of women who willingly offered themselves to him, which only made him feel repulsed and nauseated, not to mention the possibility of having any sexual relations with them. Despite being a virgin, she has nobody to blame but herself for giving it away to the wrong man.
  • He did not answer the other man's question. Instead, he smirked and said, “By noon, I'll enlist every newspaper and station in this town to hunt down this woman.”
  • ...
  • Chu Meng was in a state of disarray. She could neither go to the office nor could she return home, for this would scare the wits out of Chu Yun. She could only seek refuge in Ye Siqi's place.
  • Ye Siqi was stupefied when she saw the disheveled Chu Meng at her doorstep. “What happened to you? Why are you in a man's coat?”
  • Chu Meng had been tirelessly running and hiding the whole morning. “I need to freshen up before I can talk any further. Where's Wei Ziyang? Has he left for work?”
  • Ye Siqi passed her some clean towels and clothes while she headed for the bathroom. “He only just left the house. Wash yourself while I'll go and check on Niuniu.”
  • Ye Siqi was teaching her one-year-old daughter, Niuniu, to utter some phrases when Chu Meng came out from the bathroom.
  • She sat down next to Ye Siqi while she toweled her hair dry and played with Niuniu. The baby spread out her chubby arms and uttered a few snippets, “Aunt, carry... carry...”
  • “Darling, Aunt has to dry herself first. Let Mommy carry you instead.” Ye Siqi cradled Niuniu in her arms and pacified her before she turned to Chu Meng with an interrogative look. “So, what happened to you?'
  • “It's no big deal. I really wanted to have a baby, so I slept with a male prostitute and borrowed his coat, that's all,” Chu Meng said casually as she pinched at Niuniu's plump little face.
  • Chu Meng's light-hearted explanation came like a bombshell to Ye Siqi. “You mean you've slept with a man?” she asked, eyes widened in surprise.
  • “Yeah, that's right!”
  • “You said you wanted a baby?”
  • “Bingo!”
  • Ye Siqi was so enraged that she slapped on the back of Chu Meng's head. “Are you crazy? You don't want to get married but you want a child. Do you think it's easy to be a single mother and raise a child all by yourself? It could ruin your whole life!”
  • Despite her slap landing on Chu Meng before she could react, she could barely feel any pain. She knew Ye Siqi might look daunting and fierce on the outside, but deep down she was an absolute softie. The anger displayed on her exterior were merely manifestations of her concern for Chu Meng.
  • Chu Meng smiled, “Siqi, my aunt has been pestering me to get married. I don't want to disappoint her but I doubt I'll ever fall in love again with another person and marry him. At least I could fulfil half of her dream if I bear a child. This would be the least I could do for her.”
  • Ye Siqi had been friends with Chu Meng for years. Despite Chu Meng's crude and clumsy demeanor, deep inside she was extremely sensitive. She felt sorry, worried and sympathetic toward Chu Meng, whom she knew had yet to walk out from her doleful past. “If that's what you've decided to do, I can only give you my blessings,” she sighed. There were many things that she wanted to say to Chu Meng, but she couldn't seem to say it all at once.
  • “Thank you, Siqi,” Chu Meng thanked her friend. She was about to tell her something when she turned mute all of a sudden, her attention drawn to the special report flashed across the TV. Her body began to quiver, and the quiver turned into a tremble as she listened to the news report in detail.
  • She was under arrest? For allegedly stealing something from a prestigious client inside a pub?
  • All I took was just a coat from that gigolo, and you're calling that stealing? Why did they have to make it sound like some heinous, unforgivable crime?
  • Chu Meng was fuming. She rang up the courier company immediately.
  • The same afternoon, Sheng Tiancheng received the package from Chu Meng. He almost teared up from laughing when he saw what was inside the package. He could not wait to see the expression on Situ Han's face when he saw the package, so he delivered it to Situ Han's company personally.
