Chapter 15 Resistance Is Futile

  • The slender fingers of Situ Han hooked under her chin. Originally an action with flirtatious connotations, his face was bland instead, like it was a perfectly normal action. His voice was mild as he said, “That's easy. Just have an abortion and I'll believe you.”
  • Chu Meng felt like she was about to explode but resisted the urge. If she escalated the situation, there really would be no way back. She clenched her fists and forced a grin on her face, “Hey, I'm just trying to have a conversation with you, there's no need to take things so seriously. Who knows, maybe I'm not even pregnant. There's no need to worry so much then!”
  • “That would be best,” Situ Han slowly retracted his hand, “You may leave.”
  • Chu Meng counted down the days to the fifteenth with bated breath. Unfortunately, it was Situ Han's ire that came bearing down first.
  • Situ Han's face was stony as he threw down a new issue of Vogue Magazine in front of Chu Meng, “What's with the cover photo?”
  • The man on the magazine cover looked handsome in a suit, his head bowed in concentration as he worked. Even though his face could not be seen, there was no denying the mature and charming aura he exuded. Chu Meng gave a forced laugh, “My photography skills aren't too bad, right? Look, your face wasn't even exposed.”
  • “Shut your mouth!” If looks could kill, she would be dead a thousand times over, “Printing this photo of me without my permission or consent; is your company trying to get shut down?”
  • “No, this is all my doing, this has nothing to do with the company! Please don't involve the company. I was wrong, I know I was wrong, isn't it enough that I apologize?”
  • Chu Meng clasped her fingers together as she pleaded with him pitifully. This temporary sacrifice was necessary! She had a feeling he was the kind of man who did not go back on his words. If he had the company shut down, how was she supposed to get out of the country? How was she supposed to escape his evil clutches?
  • “Brother, what's with the temper? Are you feeling sexually frustrated since Qiao Yunqian isn't around? Word of advice, repressing yourself like that isn't good for the long-term. You may find out that your 'functions' aren't all there anymore when you do need them,” Situ Yun came waltzing down the stairs, his eyes gleaming mischievously.
  • “Hmph!” Chu Meng did not mean for that sound to escape her lips.
  • Situ Han's expression darkened further as he glared daggers at Chu Meng before turning his gaze toward Situ Yun. His tone was dangerous as he said, “Seems like you have a lot of free time on your hands. From tomorrow onwards, come work at my company. Any more messing around from you and you can take your ass back to the old mansion!”
  • Situ Yun snapped his legs together and gave a perfectly executed bow, “Yes, sir!”
  • Just like that, the photo incident was forgotten because of Situ Yun's interruption. He stealthily gave Chu Meng a wink as his fingers came up in an 'ok' gesture. Chu Meng sent him a grateful nod.
  • “Ahem.” Situ Han coughed unhappily. These two... did they really think he could not see them winking and gesturing at each other? “Tomorrow's the fifteenth, you're coming with me to the old mansion,” He directed his first sentence to Situ Yun before his gaze fell on Chu Meng, “As for you, you're staying here.”
  • Chu Meng immediately said, “Tomorrow is a Sunday, I want to go out shopping.”
  • Situ Han's reply was cold, “Resistance is futile. Whatever you need, just write a list and Ms. Wu can get it for you.”
  • Chu Meng seethed, “I need to get some private things I don't want anybody to know about.”
  • Situ Yun blinked and cut in, “How about this, we accompany Chu Chu to get her things, send her back home and then go to the old mansion.”
  • “You, shut up!” Situ Han and Chu Meng both shouted at him.
  • What went through Situ Han's mind was, You troublemaking, no good, little shit!
  • What went through Chu Meng's mind was, I've already said it was something private yet you still volunteer yourself to go with me, what an idiot!
  • Situ Han got up and headed upstairs. This conversation was over, “It's settled now, Ms. Wu will get whatever you need.”
  • Plan A was a failure, time to go to plan B.
  • That night, Chu Meng ate five ice pops and had a long, one-hour ice cold shower. The next morning, she succeeded in catching a cold.
  • Situ Han loomed over the bed, looking down at the flushed face of Chu Meng. Frowning, he turned to Xu Zhe, the family doctor that was giving her an intravenous injection. He asked, “How is she?”
  • “She has a high fever. After this bottle of infusion is finished, she should wake up.”
  • In the afternoon, Chu Meng finally woke up. Her mind was still a little hazy as she spoke in a raspy voice, “Situ Han, I want to eat the seafood porridge from Shaji, could you help me order delivery?”
  • Situ Han glanced at Ms. Wu, “Order delivery for her.”
  • Situ Yun stroked her hair, “Chu Chu, you get some rest. We'll try to get back earlier.”
  • Knowing they were heading off to the old mansion, Chu Meng nodded her head obediently, “Have a safe journey.”
