Chapter 7 What A Coincidence

  • What Lisa had given her was probably the most impossible task. The President of Cheng Hao Group, Situ Han, had never shown his face in front of the media. Even the prestigious President of the Year award was received on his behalf by his assistant, Lu Zihao. It was virtually impossible for the media to get any interview out of him, not to mention by someone from a ladies' fashion magazine.
  • Chu Meng bit her lip as she mused on the problem she was facing and stood silent.
  • “Are you worried you're not up to the task?” Lisa deliberately pitched her voice higher to taunt her.
  • “I can do this.” Chu Meng's defiance had been provoked by her sneer.
  • “Excellent!” Lisa seemed pleased as she smiled languorously and drummed her fingers on the table. “So, let's start from today, and I want it finished by Friday.”
  • Chu Meng raised her chin and lifted her shoulders when she walked out of Lisa's room, but slumped like a deflated balloon when she was back at her desk. As she looked through the meagre information, she had on Situ Han, a defeated sense of gloom fell on her. This man seemed to be living in a completely different world - a world that was insulated from the media. They did not even have any clue of what he looked like, since there was not a single picture of him available. Would she really be able to persuade him to do an interview with her?
  • Come on, Chu Meng. How can you concede defeat without even trying? She tightened her fists and spoke some words of encouragement to herself. I shouldn't waste any time, since the deadline is Friday. She called Cheng Hao Group and requested for an interview, only to be rejected by the secretary, politely but resolutely.
  • Chu Meng took her bag and briskly stepped out of the office. Rather than waiting for her luck to change, she might as well force her own luck. She decided to go to Cheng Hao Group and use her means to catch hold of the elusive Situ Han.
  • There were some staff entering the elevator. She followed behind and managed to find out from one of them that the President's office was at the thirty-sixth floor.
  • She went to the restroom and tidied herself when she got out at the thirty-sixth floor. Just when she was about to leave, a young lady around the age of seventeen or eighteen walked into the restroom. She was busily chatting with her friend over the phone and she had not noticed the presence of Chu Meng. “I can't go shopping with you today, Feiyan. I'm at Cheng Hao Group at the moment...Oh yes, you're right. Now that Yunqian has left the country, I should grab this opportunity...Okay, I got to go now. Situ would be out of the meeting anytime soon; I'd better go look for him.”
  • Chu Meng was struck with surprise when she heard the name “Situ.” Meeting? Could she be referring to Situ Han?
  • The young lady was humming a light tune while she touched up her makeup and applied some powder to her cheeks. Chu Meng observed her discreetly. She was dressed in a lovely one-piece dress and her doll-like features were flawless and exquisite. She seemed like a spoilt princess, exuding an air of innocence and naivety blended with elegance and indulgence. Chu Meng was pretty sure she came from a rich family, and the Situ whom she was referring to could very well be Situ Han.
  • As the young lady stepped out of the restroom, Chu Meng followed her surreptitiously until she stopped and waited in front of a conference room. It did not take long for the doors to swing open and a man strode out of the room ahead of everyone. The man was tall with a well-developed physique.
  • Chu Meng barely had a chance to look at the man's face when the young lady swooned at him the moment, she saw him. “I'm so glad to see you, Situ. Shall we have dinner tonight?”
  • The man tilted his body and looked at the secretary next to him with displeasure. His annoyance was so visibly apparent that Chu Meng could sense it from afar. The secretary explained with her quivering voice, “Ms. Qiao said she needs to see you for some extremely urgent matters, so I...”
  • “You're fired.” She was cut short by the man who denied her the opportunity to explain further.
  • The man emanated an air of a commanding and indomitable presence that overpowered everybody. His intimidating presence drained everyone of words and even the slightest sound of their breathing. They stood as quiet as a mouse.
  • “Let go of me!” The man bluntly swung himself free from the young girl.
  • “Situ...” cried the young lady with a pitiful look.
  • Chu Meng was about to walk up and greet him but stopped short of doing so. She could see that he did not like to be disturbed. An impromptu introduction would only aggravate his annoyance and kick her out of the building. Yet, she badly needed his interview, otherwise she would be booted out by Lisa at the other end as well. She was well aware of Lisa's hostility toward her all this while, gnawing at every opportunity to pick at her and find fault with her.
  • It's now or never! She just had to go for it.
  • “Hi, Mr. Situ, I am...” Chu Meng had scarcely finished her sentence when her name card slipped from her shaking hands and landed on the floor.
  • The man, who had such stunning good looks which almost took her breath away, turned and faced her albeit in a more terrifying way. It turned out that the legendary Situ Han was the man whom she had slept with last night, in their one-night stand encounter.
  • You got to be kidding me!
  • Chu Meng startled; her mouth hung wide. Situ Han instinctively detected something fishy about the woman who was standing in front of him. Besides, she looked indescribably familiar. Just at the blink of his eye, when it struck him like an epiphany who this woman was, Chu Meng had abruptly turned around and started to run. The sound of her heels reverberated across the walls as she pattered toward the long and narrow corridor, frantically.
  • Upon entering the elevator, Chu Meng was panting so hard that she could feel her pulse pounding in her temples, echoing the tumultuous throbbing of her heartbeat. Just when the door was about to close, she saw Situ Han chasing her with her name card in his hand. It was the name card which had slipped from her hand and landed on the floor.
