• The first court session had ended days ago. Maddox and his group hadn’t said a word afterward, leaving in silence with their lawyers. Perhaps to regroup, to plan their next move. But I didn’t let that disturb me.
• The rest of my week passed uneventfully. It was almost too quiet, but nothing ended up happening. Then, over the weekend, Jaxon showed up and invited me out for a meal in town. He said he wanted to catch up.
• He was not present during the first court session. Neither was Colton, the both of them having been occupied with school matters. So it made sense he wanted to talk.
