Chapter 4

  • WAITING LIST
  • The intensity of the pain I am feeling right at this very moment is almost unbearable. Hearing those hurtful words from the person I value the most makes it extra painful.
  • I was crying the whole drive home and he didn’t even do anything to calm me down. I was crying ugly inside his car, beside him but all he did was drive. No words of comfort. No anything at all.
  • I wiped my tears with my handkerchief and immediately got out of his car the moment he pulled over our gate. I didn’t look at him, nor thanked him for the lift. I didn’t need a ride home. I needed him to take his words back. But I know he wouldn’t. And it’s all my fault.
  • Eurick saw me as I entered the house. His eyes widened when he saw me in this state and walked to me. “Nique, what’s wrong?” he asked, worried.
  • I smiled weakly and shook my head. “This is nothing. I’m just emotional because I drank a little.” I replied and immediately walked to my room.
  • I did nothing but cry the whole night. I got no wink of sleep. I didn’t even notice the time until Eurick came in and called me for breakfast.
  • He looked at me with wide eyes. “Nique?! Are you alright?” He asked.
  • I looked back at him and wiped the tears on my cheek. “I’m not going to eat breakfast.” I told him as I got up and went straight to the bathroom to freshen up…even though I know it won’t do anything about my physical appearance right now.
  • I shut the door and sighed. Today, I’m just going to find a company to work with so I could preoccupy myself with something other than Kaisser Bennett. Or maybe I would just pretend to apply in Nildex so I could see him.
  • Damn. I want him back. I need him back. I know what I did was unforgivable but I’m not going to back down. My eyes are set on the goal. I want Kai back to me. I could melt his anger with my love. I could ease the pain with my love. That, I’m certain of.
  • I looked at myself in the mirror and realized one thing.
  • When I left the United Kingdom, how miserable was Kai? How wasted did he look? How devastated did he feel?
  • It hurts me that he’s doing this to me now but what about him? What has he felt when I left him? Based on the bitterness in his voice last night, I know he’s been through a lot of pain as well.
  • Four long years and I could still see the pain in his eyes. Last night, I’ve seen him break in front of me and I couldn’t tend to look straight into his hurt eyes. I can’t see the pain that I had caused him.
  • I fixed myself to make myself look presentable. I don’t need to show everyone my broken self. I can just keep it to myself and pretend that I am alright. It’s my own problem that I needed to fix. It’s my own problem that I needed to get over with.
  • But will I be able to let go of the Kaisser Bennett?
  • I love him. After all these times, I still love him. I wouldn’t cry if I don’t. I wouldn’t cry if I’m alright.
  • I put on light make up and prepared to go down. I need to move early today since I need to get my car from the club.
  • “Where are you going?” Mom asked me as soon as I walked downstairs.
  • They are all there—my parents, Euron, Euben, Eurick and Eujean. They all looked at me, waiting for my response.
  • I smiled like nothing happened last night. “I’m going to start looking for a job, Mom, Dad,” I replied. “I’ll search the whole London for a job that will fit me.”
  • Dad smiled at me. “Now, that’s the spirit!” he beamed. “But you should go to Nildex first. They’re the ones that will offer the best position for you.”
  • I nodded. He doesn’t have to say that. I am really going to Nildex to see the love of my life. I am going to only apply in Nildex because I only want to work there.
  • I don’t have a plan. I don’t have a plan for him to get back with me. But I am getting into it. But the first step is to get closer to him. And Nildex is the only way.
  • “I better go, Dad, Mom,” I said and walked out of the house.
  • I need to go to the club now. I need to get my car.
  • I hailed a cab and dropped by the club we went last night. The valet immediately saw me and walked to me.
  • “Are you looking for your car, Miss?” he asked.
  • I nodded. Well, it’s a good thing that he already knew what I came here for.
  • He rubbed the back of his head. “A man got your car last night, ma’am. He told me he knows you so I gave him the car.”
  • I narrowed my eyes at him. Did he just give the car to just anyone?! “Did he tell you his name?” I asked, trying to eradicate all the horrid thoughts inside my brain.
  • He thought for a moment. “Kaisser…Bennett?” he replied but he sounded so unsure.
  • My heart beat faster upon hearing his name. “Kaisser Bennett?” I asked.
  • He pursed his lips. “That’s what I can remember, Miss,” he replied.
  • I nodded. “Okay, thanks,” I told him and turned to my phone, calling Ashley.
  • Why would Kai take my car? And why hasn’t he given it to me? Is he also planning something? Is he also thinking of doing something?
  • “Ashley,” I spoke when she answered the call.
  • “Eunique, why are you calling so early in the morning?” she asked in her husky voice. “Baby, who’s that? Let’s sleep more.” I can hear Kris’ voice in the background, too.
  • I rolled my eyes. “Tell your boyfriend to ask Kai where my car is!” I told Ashley.
  • “What?!” Ashley asked, surprised. “Kai took your car?”
  • I sighed. “Yes. I’m on my way to his company now,” I replied, not knowing if I’m pissed off or just really happy that I have found another excuse to talk to him.
  • I heard Ashley ask Kris where Kai is. “You can just go to Nildex now. Kris said Kai goes to work before eight in the morning.”
  • I looked at my watch. It’s almost eight in the morning. I thanked the valet and walked near the cab stop.
  • Now, everything’s going so well.
  • I hailed another cab and went straight to Nildex, taking all my requirements with me.
  • I stared at the façade of the building. It’s still the same old façade I have seen four years ago. The glass walls, the revolving glass door of the entrance, everything is still the same.
  • I took a deep breath and walked inside. The receptionist, Miss Jessica, smiled at me. “Hi, Miss! How may I help you?” she asked me as soon as I arrived at the receiving area.
  • I smiled at her. “I’m Eunique James. I’m going to apply for your vacant HR Head position,” I informed her.
  • She nodded and listed something. “Okay, Miss. Mr. Kaisser Bennett and the board members are waiting for you, Ma’am.” She spoke.
  • “They’re waiting for me?” I asked.
  • She smiled. “They’re waiting for applicants, I mean,” she laughed and called someone. “Irene, please usher Miss James to the conference room now.”
  • Irene smiled at me and nodded at Jessica. “This way, Miss James,” she told me and led me to the conference room.
  • My heart beat faster every step towards the conference room. Kaisser Bennett is waiting in there. He’s going to be the one to interview me. How nervous could I be?
  • Irene stopped at a huge door. Encrypted above it are the words Conference Room. “You’re our first walk-in applicant for the day. They are waiting for you,” she smiled at me as she opened the door and told the people inside about my presence.
  • “Come in,” I heard Kai’s faint voice.
  • Irene opened the door wider revealing the persons inside. There are three people waiting inside. When I thought about board members, I thought the people would be in their forties or anything but I was wrong.
  • In the middle was Kaisser in his all-black suit with gray neck tie. To his right is a man with blue eyes and thick brows who’s also wearing a dark blue suit. To his left is a man with high cheek bones and a beautiful smile who’s wearing a gray suit.
  • Kai stared at me with his dark eyes. He didn’t seem so surprised to see me here but his stare was all of his anger. I know. I can feel the daggers digging into my skin.
  • “Miss?” the man with high cheekbones raised his brow. “I’m Paulo Bennett.” He smiled. “This is Miguel Bennett and that’s the CEO, Kaisser Bennett. Please take your seat.”
  • I did as I was told and I could literally feel my heart pounding against my chest as I was watched by all three of them. “I-I’m Eunique James,” I introduced.
  • Miguel looked at me and smiled. “Can we see your resume first?” he asked me and I gladly handed it to him. He browsed through my resume with a smirk on his face. “So you studied and worked in New York?”
  • I nodded. “Yes. I lived in New York for almost four years, Mr. Bennett.” Now, I’m kind of confused because all of them are literally Mr. Bennett.
  • Paulo smiled at me. “You must be so experienced,” he commented but his voice sounded like someone who already has tons of expectations inside his head.
  • I smiled. “I can’t say that for certain, Mr. Paulo Bennett,” I replied humbly.
  • He smiled and turned to Kai. “What do you think, Kai?” He asked.
  • Kai pursed his lips in a thin line before looking into me. “The first quality I am looking for in my employees is loyalty to the words being said…” he paused and set his eyes on mine. “I need an employee who’s true to his or her words.”
  • Miguel and Paulo looked at me, seemingly confused of what Kai is saying.
  • “Are you a woman with a word of honor, Miss James?” Kai asked.
  • I bit my lip and stayed quiet.
  • Kai smirked. “Until you can answer me, you’re on the waiting list,” he said in a low baritone before looking away.
