Chapter 60

  • Jessie's POV
  • I had always considered Nathan a part of the family, ever since my father started searching for him years ago. I have witnessed my father's tears and the burden of guilt he carried for losing both Nathan and his mother. I have always known the lengths to which Father was willing to go—spending his entire fortune if necessary—to find his long-lost son. Yet, I have failed to comprehend why my mother and brother can't seem to extend acceptance and affection towards Nathan.
  • Their persistent efforts to make Nathan feel like an outsider were a source of discomfort and sadness for me. The family's wealth was sufficient for everyone; there was no need for the enmity on Nathan. He had already gone through a lot since his mother fled off with him. He grew up without a father's figure and love; unlike us, he was devoid of all of the luxuries and privileges we enjoyed and even took for granted. His childhood was marked by suffering—living and surviving on the streets of Rome from the tender age of ten.
