Chapter 49
- The gates of the Sinclair Estate closed with a heavy thud behind Beatrice, leaving her standing outside in the cold night air. Fiona, ever the composed one, didn’t say anything about the situation with the Warrens. She merely stood there, watching Antern with a quiet intensity.
- Noticing the tension in his face, Fiona spoke up. "Mr. Antern, what’s going on?" she asked, her voice low.
- Antern handed the reins to the stableman, feeling the ache in his muscles from the long ride. "Lady Heather turned down the gift our lady sent for the Lady," he said, careful to keep his voice just above a whisper. He didn’t want anyone else overhearing.
