  • After downing a bottle of water and walking a few slow laps through the executive lounge, I was finally starting to feel sober again.   • "Sir," Reed said cautiously as we stepped into the marble atrium, "you don’t really intend to push Lady Sinclair into an engagement, do you?"
  • I shot him a sideways glance. "Do you really think I’d steal a woman from my own brother?" I paused, my voice dropping. "Even if the thought crossed my mind… Mother would never allow it. She and Melanie were practically sisters. There’s no way she’d agree to something like that."
