Chapter 1
- Lydia’s POV:
- “Lydia, can you go to jail for Lilia?”
- I couldn’t believe what I had just heard. My own brother, Norton, was asking me to take the blame for my foster sister Lilia - the one who had always bullied me and taken everything from me!
- He even lowered his noble head to his most despised sister for this!
- Because that idiot, who had no blood relation to us, had killed an innocent pedestrian on the first day she got her driver’s license!
- But why should I go to jail for Lilia!
- It was her who stole my life!
- If anyone should go to jail, it should be Lilia for me!
- “Then let Lilia kneel to me!” I glared at Norton, challenging his alpha authority.
- Lilia, who was standing weakly beside me, was about to kneel down, but Norton grabbed her arm and stopped her. “No need to kneel to her.”
- Then a powerful force emanated from Norton, hitting my insides.
- “Lydia, don’t push it!”
- I spat out blood, extremely disappointed. “Just for her?! A stranger who has no blood relation to you! You’re willing to hurt me for her?”
- “Consider it a favor.” Norton’s demeanor softened, pleading, “Lilia has no wolf of her own. She will die in prison!”
- “And I’m supposed to be fine with that?” I couldn’t help but shout.
- On the side, Lilia knelt down with a thud, tears streaming down her face. “Norton! Don’t do this for me! Don’t beg her for me!”
- “It’s just jail! I’ll go!” I snapped. “Lydia, don’t make it difficult for your brother! He’s been through a lot since our parents died!”
- I was so angry that I couldn’t catch my breath. The words of retort felt like bitter pills stuck in my throat.
- Was I trying to make things difficult for Norton?
- It was Norton who was going against me for Lilia!
- When I returned home, Norton and our deceased parents had promised to treat me well.
- But Norton had deceived me. In the five years since I returned home, amidst all the conflicts and benefits between me and Lilia, he had never believed in my existence, and even disliked me!
- And knowing that my wolf was already in a coma, he still wanted me to go to jail to die!
- Norton was just a jerk!
- I bit my lip, walked up to Lilia, and slapped her, shouting, “You bitch, shut up!”
- “Norton, listen to me carefully! I, Lydia, will never go to jail for Lilia! Not in this lifetime, not in the next!” I stared at Norton, burning with anger. “Whoever killed someone should go to jail!”
- In the next moment, I met Norton’s bloodshot eyes.
- His gaze was so cold, so cruel, as if he was looking at an enemy.
- The pressure was getting heavier, making it hard for me to even stand up straight.
- Before Norton could speak, applause rang out from the front door of our villa.
- “Lydia, you’ve shown rare courage this time.”
- It was Alpha Alessandro of the San Jose pack!
- My fiance, the man I believed loved me deeply and whom I loved, didn’t even spare me a glance. Instead, his eyes landed on Lilia, who was sobbing beside me.
- “Alex…” I called out Alessandro’s nickname, pleading for him to intervene.
- But Alessandro turned coldly to the door and ordered, “Bring her in.”
- Two men in black dragged in a bloody woman.
- She was covered in wounds, and that kind face belonged to Brigitte, the nanny who had always loved me the most in this house!
- “Aunt Brigitte!” I almost cried out, rushing forward to free her from the men in black. “Let her go!”
- But I was kicked hard in the abdomen by a pair of shoes, the pain overwhelming me as I fell to the ground, looking in disbelief at the man who had attacked me.
- “Alex, you…”
- Alessandro looked at me coldly. “Don’t call me Alex! You don’t deserve to.”
- He bent down and gripped my face forcefully.
- “Lydia, you only have two choices now! One, Brigitte dies. Two, you go to jail instead of Lilia. Choose!”
- After speaking, Alessandro tossed me aside as if I were trash.
- Instead, he gently helped Lilia up, wiping the tears from her eyes. “Why are you crying like a scared kitten? Don’t worry, with me and Norton here, nothing will happen.”
- I trembled all over, unable to believe what was happening before my eyes.
- “Alessandro!” I stood up angrily. “Don’t forget, I am your fiance!”
- Alessandro coldly replied, “San Jose won’t accept a Luna who has been to prison. Lydia, you haven’t made your choice yet!”
- The damn choice!
- I looked at the barely conscious Brigitte, clenching and unclenching my fists.
- Alessandro knew me so well, how could he not know what I would choose!
- For five years, he had been pretending in front of me! Deceiving my feelings, and now he wanted to hurt my heart!
- “Don’t go to jail!” Brigitte spat out blood, looking at me with concern. “Lydia! Don’t listen to them! Don’t worry about me!”
- As soon as Brigitte finished speaking, Alessandro signaled to the men in black, and one of them slapped poor Aunt Brigitte across the face, making her scream in pain.
- “Enough!” I clenched my fists, glaring at Alessandro. “I’ll take the fall for that bitch, but you have to promise me, you will never lay a hand on Brigitte again!”
- Alessandro smirked, and his henchmen brought out a confession letter.
- “Sign it.”
- “No! Lydia, don’t!” Brigitte screamed, before quickly being knocked unconscious.
- I gripped the pen in my hand, looking sarcastically at the three of them.
- These three, who were supposed to be the closest to me, were not even as kind as a stranger!
- Norton finally spoke up, unable to bear it any longer. “When you come out of prison, both Alessandro and I will compensate you.”
- “Compensate me?” I stared at him, signing my name on the paper. “No! You don’t deserve it!”
- “One day, you will regret everything you’ve done to me today. You will never have my forgiveness!”
- I cursed at them. “You better pray that when I come out of prison, I won’t be as foolish as I am now! I will be your nightmare!”
- “You will regret treating me like this for that bitch Lilia. Guilt will haunt your hearts, and you will not have peace!”
- Alessandro’s henchmen quickly grabbed me and pushed me into the police car.
- I looked at the gloomy sky, crying and laughing, then screamed without caring about my image. “You ruined me! You will regret this!!”
- The wind carried Norton’s whisper, “Will we regret it?”
- “I won’t regret it!” Alessandro said firmly.
