• My voice barely contained my incredulity. "I don't understand. What do you mean I'll have to relinquish my pack to you?" I asked, my gaze drifting to my friends at the table – David, Alex, Chris, and Tom. Their shocked faces mirrored my own, and they began murmuring among themselves, their disapproval evident.
• Roshan's calm demeanor only fueled my confusion. "It's exactly as you understand it to be," he replied, his tone measured. "For my help, you'll have to step down as alpha, and your pack will be under my leadership. Don't worry, I'll compensate you – you'll be second in command after me."
