• As soon as Cassie sighted Ryan in the witches' realm, she was extremely happy. She was so excited that someone she knew had finally come to join her where she knew no one. Although she hated vampires, and Cassie was one, she didn't mind because she was aware of Cassie's past.
• "Cassie!" Ryan called when she saw that Cassie was alone. She —Ryan— was allowed to go outside for about an hour every day to get some air before returning inside, to the room she was being kept so they could have their eyes on her.
• Cassie turned to look in the direction she heard her name from. She recognized that voice anywhere, and she could already tell that it belonged to Ryan, but she didn't know she was in the witches' realm too. As she turned around and saw Ryan waving to her from where she sat some feet away from her, a look of surprise crossed her face. She didn't expect to see her there.
