Chapter 16

• Cassie waited, counting on her fingers, till one hour had passed. The place was dead silent. It was finally her time to make a move. She couldn't stay there anymore, she had to move, and to do that, Cassie finally had to accept the blood being given to her. She needed it if she was going to escape, so she chose not to acknowledge the fact that she might currently be a full vampire at the moment. All she knew was how powerful she felt, such strength that she didn't know was even possible for a man to contain.
• For days, unknown to her abductor, she had been working on the chains they had her held with. The day when the guard had first struggled with her to drink the blood, unknown to him, a pin had fallen from his pocket. Cassie had gotten hold of that immediately. Her father had been a locksmith, so she knew her way around. But even though she could free herself, she couldn't escape immediately, she was weak. That's why she had waited, till this moment that she was strong. Also, it wasn't easy for her at first too, so even if she was strong, she couldn't exactly leave the day she found the pin. Things had changed since the time she lived before, and locks weren't made like they were before.
• She reached behind her, inserted the pin in the padlock, and began playing around with it, the way she had been doing for a week now, and soon, she was just able to press hard on the right spot, just hard enough to free herself. She let out a small amount of joy when it came off. Quickly, but not so fast that it would cause a lot of noise, she freed herself from the chain. She hurried to her feet and ran to the door. Happy that it wasn't bolted at the other side, not chained together, the lock came to her aid again. Once she was out of the room, Cassie took off, running as her life depended on it—she was afraid that her life did depend on it.
