I pushed myself too hard, and some of the wounds reopened before they could heal.” I exhaled softly, my gaze dropping to my hands. “I didn’t want you to find out… which is why I went with Cole.” Telling him everything made it feel like a huge burden was lifted from my back, but I couldn't look him in the eye. I didn't want to see what he felt because deep down, I knew already and it made my chest ache.
- Next to me, he let out a deep sigh that confirmed my suspicion. I flinched when I felt his finger gently graze a barely visible bruise on my arm. “You should have told me.” He was angry. I could hear it… feel it, but I could also hear the guilt as he added. “I should have suspected. The signs were there.”
