• I gently placed Marcella on the bed of the master bedroom in my private villa. It was clear she didn't want anyone to find out about her condition else she wouldn't have refused to go to the hospital. I placed my finger beneath her nose, my heart beating faster when I felt her slow, laboured breaths.
• I picked up my phone and dialled the number of my friend who was a doctor. “Where are you? How long will it take for you to get here?” I had called her on my way to my villa. Although I tried to be calm, my trembling voice betrayed my panic and worry.
