Chapter 8

  • Tyler’s POV
  • A small picture window came into view when I opened my eyes. Memories of yesterday’s event came flooding back in.
  • “Kaya” My wolf voice resonated in my mind jolting me to turn towards her.
  • Her skin was golden from the sunbeams that came in through the window giving her an otherworldly beauty. My fingers traced the outline of her oval-shaped face itching to touch her chapped full lips. We were so close to the point that I could see the freckles underneath her eyelash. I swelled up inside from being this close to seeing this side of her, a side of her I am sure not may have seen. We fit so perfectly and I craved to know every bit of her; her past, her pain, her source of happiness as well as her future.
  • “Mine” My wolf echoed in my mind.
  • She was indeed alluring.
  • In a moment, her eyes fluttered open revealing the most striking green eyes which adjusted to the light and caught me staring. A glimmer of fear appeared on her face for a few seconds which later settled into shyness. I needed to fix her insecurities and I couldn’t achieve that without finding out from her the danger she faced, especially with the Trios.
  • The bruise on her neck had turned purple and it roused fury inside of me. I swore to find out every detail but I needed her to trust that I would protect her.
  • Though reluctant, she told me of her past experiences in the pack, and how she grew old in foster care because no family was willing to adopt her. When I asked why she explained that it was due to the circumstances of her birth. Most of the pack members perceived her to be cursed because she was born on the prophesied Day of atrocity. Now that she mentioned it, I recall that day, when we lost a beloved member of our pack. I was just a toddler and Lily was a few months old. That day was indeed very gloomy even for the most revered wolf.
  • It dawned on me the reason for her misfortune. My chest tightened as I imagined the horror she must have been through, what my pack members put her through every single day. How alone she has been, even though I didn’t pay attention to her existence. I admired how strong she was on the inside although her tiny frame camouflages her strengths. A lot of people would have ended their life without fighting for it. But she didn’t, she fought till I found her.
  • She moved aside, struggling to sit up and hissed in the process.
  • “Shit! Kaya. You need to be more careful.” My loud voice caused her to flinch as though anticipating a smack and this vexed my very core.
  • “I am sorry.” She responded.
  • “You shouldn’t be apologizing Kaya,” I said pleadingly. Who was I to blame? She has lived alone her whole life with no one to protect her from the bullies in the pack. She was practically their punching bag. As I pondered on this every cell in me sought revenge and I knew just where to start.
  • “I’ll give you some space to collect yourself, I’ll be back right when you need me.” With that said, I planted a kiss on her forehead and made for the door.
  • As the Alpha, I had an entire suite attached to my office which was situated close to the pack house. I bolted to the room and quickly showered before changing into clean clothing. I made my way to the dungeon and spotted my best guard who unlocked the door to let me in. At the corner of the filthiest cell laid Luta. In my attempt to save Kaya at Meadow Lake, I snapped his arm bursting his collar bone. Because of the intensity of the attack, his body grew limp and sank into the water but being a beta wolf, he must have regained consciousness and made his way to the shores of the lake. But unluckily, my guards found him and reported to me.
  • He lay there writhing in pain. As a Beta, his injuries had healed but the silver chains that bound him weakened him constantly. As he sensed my presence, he sat up and stared at me, and then spat on the floor, to show his disregard for me.
  • “You’re lucky you survived my wrath Luta, I am not so sure you would be so lucky today.” I voiced holding back every fibre in me that wanted to kill him that instant.
  • “You were warned to never go against my rules and you chose to disobey them”. I gestured to the guard to hand me the whip which was laced with silver wires.
  • "Your worst mistake was touching Kaya." As I said this, his shoulder vibrated from the sinister laughter that erupted from him.
  • He grinned sourly, "So this is the reason for this hassle." tsking while he asked, "The fucking brat?” I should have killed her right there in that lake when I had the ch—"
  • His words were cut short as the whip collided with his jaw, sending his head flying backwards. At that moment, I was near him, pounding him repeatedly. It felt as though everything was moving slowly and all that mattered was hurting him. His body collapsed to the floor as blood gushed from his busted lips.
  • Why in the world would he hate her so intensely? What did Kaya do to warrant such hatred from him?
  • "Stand." My voice boomed out prompting him to roll over. Luta's bruised face was so battered it was no longer recognizable. Neither my wolf nor I gave a dam at this point.
  • "Chain him up." I gave the guards orders. Rage consumed me and my eyes turned a dangerous shade of red as my wolf threatened to fully manifest. I knew that if it did, Luta would not live to see another daylight. I tried to hold back with every fibre of my being knowing that if I didn’t, a pack member would end up dead and this went against my morale. It was impossible to control my wolf so I busted out of the room and thought to bolt straight to Kaya’s room as her presence helped to calm my nerves but I had to admit that letting her see me in this state would frighten her so, I turned around and dashed towards Lake Meadow, I needed to calm my nerves and running along the shores of the lake did well to soothe me.
