Chapter 6

• Kaya's Pov
• Every attempt to make a friend in the pack was futile and I would blame this on a rumour about my birth and what happened on that day. Many believed I was a curse and thus refused to associate with me or even help me when I was ill-treated. In years, I've never felt safe enough to approach a pack member. Stupidly, I had made a friend a while back, only to discover that it was all a hoax and she was merely acting. Luta, Jeremy and Danni were all successful in making everyone dislike me. As a result, I've never spoken to anyone since then because I feared the situation would repeat itself. Especially now that the Alpa seems to care about me.
• Can I really rely on him not to harm me the way his pack has?
• "Get out," his wolf hissed, his eyes riveted on me as he roared at the doctor. Oslo sprinted out of the room as fast as his legs could carry him. I would do the same safe for my current situation. We all knew that an angry alpha is bad news. Was he upset with me? I looked down, unable to meet his gaze.
• When Luta was enraged, he let his wolf take command. That was the most frightening situation I’ve ever found myself and I didn’t want that repeated. I couldn't help but flinch as he neared; it was only instinct; no one has ever been so close to me without intending to harm me. His forefinger slid under my chin, tilting my head up, while his thumb rested against the back of my neck.
• Tyler's wolf was still out, as evidenced by his red eyes: "You're safe now" Tyler's wolf voice echoed again in my mind, sensing my apprehension,” you’re mine, Kaya." The voice resonated shaking my very core.
• Surprisingly, it felt as if a burden had been taken off my shoulders. I couldn't believe it. Why would he want me if he was the strongest alpha and I was just a weakling? The thought of being the Alpha's mate immediately welcomed the thought of running away.
• "Please say something," he said quite tenderly, as his gaze fixated on mine.
• I was astonished at how fast he changed from fury to tenderness.
• "You're convinced I am your mate?." I said bemused.
• "And you're not?" His brows furrowed in bewilderment.
• "M-my wolf has vanished," I stated causing him to wrinkle his eyebrows.
• "I don't understand" he inquired, his voice trembling.
• "After my transformation, she hasn’t shown up, there has been no sign of her and I am alone." "I have put that all behind me now," I added avoiding eye contact.
• " How did you get all these bruises, Kaya?" He said caressing my chin, causing shivers to travel down my spine. He seemed to not care about my wolf being gone.
• I know what telling him of my past ordeal means for the trio, I know that he would protect me but what puzzled me was; is he doing this out of his duty to his pack or because I'm his mate?
• "I can’t," I muttered, closing my eyes in an attempt to resist the urge to let his sweet scent consume me.
• "Can you at least tell me who is responsible for your broken ribs?" he asked after a sigh. Not budging, I sat there speechless, unsure of where to begin.
• "Just nod if the answer is what I say." his hand moved away from my chin, and I missed his touch already. I nodded to give him the go-ahead.
• "Did Luta, Jeremy and Danni hurt you yesterday when I bumped into you?"
• I paused refusing to affirm the statement
• "You need to tell me this, Kaya, it's important you do." he said with a growl, Don’t be afraid." his hands gripped my face. "Do you understand that no one is going to hurt you now?"
• I could not discern if he was bluffing but his reputation preceded him, Tyler never bluffed. Plus nobody in my life has ever said they wouldn't hurt me. At this moment I had to let go of my doubt because he seemed truly genuine. All he's done has convinced me to.
• "It was the Trio's " My emotions decided before my head had a chance to process it.
• I watched him shudder with rage the next second and wished I hadn't said anything. His eyes were red and filled with fury in an instant indicating the presence of his wolf.
• "It's all behind me now" I began, only to have him cut me off.
• "Tell me. ”He said in a slightly alpha tone.
• " I turned My back on Luta while he was talking to me, I was trying to get away. He said I was being disrespectful." I said rather hesitantly. His eyes were wild and he growled fiercely after I concluded the story.
• "And you apologized for colliding with me?" He said with disbelief.
• "I'm going to let the salutary run a few more tests," he said dryly and added, "I'll be back before you know it." When he said this, he was so enraged that he slammed the door behind him.
• What happened to Luta, was he dead? Does that have to do with where the Alpha is headed? My thoughts were short-lived when Oslo entered the room to conduct a series of tests on me. He offered me a kind of ointment to apply to the bruises on my body. It was humiliating to have him see them, and I felt awful. Simultaneously, I longed strongly for Tyler’s presence somehow, his presence was addictive.
• After Oslo was through, he said I should rest a while before heading back but I opted to rest in my cabin instead of the clinic which he agreed to. I craved my bed and didn’t want to spend another minute in the clinic. Meanwhile, Tyler was taking forever to get back, maybe he was swamped up with Alpha duties or maybe he had forgotten about me.
• I walked ungraciously towards my bedroom desiring my cosy space.
• All I could think of right now was falling asleep. Unfortunately, I could not quicken my strides because it took a lot of effort to take a step, I should have waited for Tyler I thought. While collecting my thoughts, I was abruptly thrown against a wall, making me howl in pain.
• My mouth was roughly smothered by a hand.
• "What the heck is going on, Where the hell is Luta? Tyler has ordered a search for him for unknown reasons, what did you do bitch? Goddess help you for If you said anything, you are dead!" Jeremy yelled, and I noticed Danni serving as a lookout. I could only nod and close my eyes, terrified that he would do everything to make my ribs hurt even more. "Um...Jeremy." I heard Danni say.
• "What!" he said as I opened my eyes to see Tyler, or rather Tyler's wolf, standing at the end of the corridor. "Get your filthy hands off her this instant," he said, his rage visible behind every syllable. Jeremy took a step away from me, slowly but steadily removing his hands from my face. I let out a sigh of relief, not realizing I'd been holding my breath while my gaze moved to Tyler. Then two more men, who appeared to be guards, entered the corridor.
• "Take them to the Dungeon where Luta is," he said, looking over at Danni who was spooked.
• That was what he meant when he said: "dealt with." They were all being led to the dungeons, which served as a prison for outlanders and other rouge wolves.
• "Affirmative." The guards responded before dragging Jeremy and Danni to the cages against their will.
• After everyone had left, he walked up to me scanning every inch of my body to see if I was ok before burying his head in my neck to relish my scent. People say this behaviour calms an angry mate, but I was just startled by it. He took a second to bring his eyes back, which were now the golden colour I was intoxicated with.
• "I said I’ll be back before you know it," he murmured with a tiny smile on his face.
• "I simply wanted to be in my room, and you were taking forever," I replied, a little shyly.
• "My apologies love, now may I carry you, Oslo said you should rest remember?"
• My only response was a bashful nod as his hands quickly but tenderly lifted me in bridal style. It was strange and unfamiliar, yet I believe I grinned a little at the gesture. I hadn't smiled, much less laughed, in a long time. By this time, the sparks were virtually everywhere.
• With a smile, he asked, " Point me in the direction of your room, would you?" I knew he'd heard me chuckle.
• "Yes," I spoke softly as I rested my head on his shoulder.
• This was undoubtedly the best feeling I thought as my heart fluttered
