Chapter 11

  • Kaya’s POV
  • The tears gushed down my face alongside the water from the shower head. It was soothing to cry in the shower, I felt safe here in my space. As the water streamed down, I gazed at my body. Each of the slight bruises, the huge scars from the injuries I had obtained from the incident with the trio which wasn’t completely healed.
  • Luta always strangled me, no doubt it had left a bruise on my neck this time.
  • It had been five days since I'd last heard from Tyler or seen him. The way he left the room left me aching in my heart. After I told him I wasn’t right for him, he left angrily. I gave him an easy way out of my baggage life but it hurt to see him leave. I, on the other hand, haven’t left my room for any reason. Instead, I’ve been planning my escape from the pack. The possibility of running into Luta’s Mate made me nervous, I realized she would ask me what occurred and why they were in the dungeon and I didn’t want to be put in the position of explaining all that has happened.
  • There was no question that everybody in the pack realized something was going on although not the specifics. I slipped on my dark leggings and put on a black hoodie. Feeling very edgy, I walked towards my shelf, picked up my locket and wore it making sure I tucked it in my hoodie. I picked up my backpack to make sure all the necessary items needed for my journey were there including some of my items and a map on the back page of my diary.
  • Looking at the map heightened my nervousness so I took in a deep breath and reassured myself that all will go as planned and that I will finally put this life behind me. I had circled my destination, a small community located beyond the deserted lands that are known to be friendly to all kinds. There, I could start all over and forget my past although I doubt that I will ever forget Tyler. No matter how much I lied to myself, I felt deeply for him and I didn’t even know him so well. His touch felt so calming and familiar making me crave him every moment I think of him and I always think of him.
  • I took one last glance at my tiny space and closed the door on my way out. I decided to steal away through the path leading to the lake and make my way towards the boundary. As I moved stealthily through the hallway and out of the pack house to descend downhill, I couldn’t help but hear whispers of discussions of the Alpha’s encounter with the Trio. It was no news that something was going on but I doubt they had the foggiest idea about the full story, however, it didn’t bother me. Everybody knew Luta, Jeremy and Danni were taken to the cells. At this point, I have decided to put all of that behind me now. There it was, more reason to elope, I just didn't want more on my plate to deal with. Except Tyler hurt me with the way he left.
  • My heart began thumping so quickly as I made my way downhill. The sun had set and dusk had settled over the lake. I immediately hurried towards the boundary before the night shift patrol assumed their position.
  • Luckily, I made it through the boundary without any hassle. As I walked through the forest, along the travel path I couldn’t help but admire the forest. The air was fresh and calming however in a second, the ambience became very unsettling, it felt like I was being watched. I turned back to gaze through the forest but I saw no one.
  • I took a deep breath and encouraged myself. I mean, I could take any beating if worst comes to worst at this point, I’ve done that all my life. Out of fright, I quickened my steps, but then, I heard a twig break. It was certain now, I had company.
  • “Who is there?” I said turning back to assess my environment. Then, I spotted three, no, five figures lurking behind trees. As I made them, they strode out and circled me. I couldn’t help but notice how raggedy and tattered they appeared.
  • “Tsk Tsk, Look what we have here,” one of them said grisly. His appearance was creepy, I studied his face and observed an ugly scar stretched across.
  • “She smells of him, The Alpha of Crimson.” The other person spat narrowing her eyes at me.
  • Then it dawned on me, they must be the outlanders from Shadow Moon Pack that have been attacking our pack.
  • “Stand back” I managed to say with the fiercest force I could muster regrettably, this caused a chuckle to erupt from the group. One of them inched closer to me. She looked different from the others; a bit smarter and cleaner. She drew a breath and gave me a sinister smile.
  • “Who knew the Moon Goddess answered prayers? I prayed to get my revenge on your Alpha and then, here you are. A Lost Little pub.” I never heard a voice so cruel and cold as hers. She inspected me and her gaze paused over the centre of my chest where my locket lay, it was almost as if she sensed it.
  • Instantly, her gaze split and became alert.
  • She used her sharp nail to rip the locket off my neck causing my skin to sting.
  • She growled deeply as she took hold of it and inspected it. Then she turned her sharp gaze towards me. “Her locket, it bound by dark magic! ” she spat
  • “Nimue, are you certain it's dark magic you are sensing? Look how scared she is". One of them said.
  • Nimue I thought, her name was Nimue, the others seemed to pay respect to her.
  • “Yeah, she is not a witch, she is a werewolf. How the hell can she perform dark magic?”. The other said.
  • “What the hell is she?” This time, I could sense the fear emitting from them except Nimue.
  • “What the hell are you, bitch!” A scared voice spoke. What Nimue said seemed to agitate them and this frightened me because things always go out of hand when fear is involved. But I decided to defend myself in a bid to calm the tension.
  • “No—No one, I am just passing through, I— I mean no harm. The locket is a gift from mother” I gulped.
  • “You’re not a nobody darling”, Nimue’s icy voice rang in my ears as her mischievous gaze met mine. She exchanged a conspiratorial look at the group and strode away from me.
  • “You are our chance to redemption”. She uttered smiling mischievously. Before I could think of what she said, a sturdy fist collided with my face.
  • A warm tickle rolled down my face, my mouth tasted like copper as I sank into oblivion.
