Chapter 6 Don’t

  • As soon as Christopher flung away Diane’s hand, she wrapped her arms around him again and hugged him tight.
  • “I’m begging you, Christopher. Please help me.”
  • Christopher lowered his gaze as he stared at the woman who was clutching him tight like a startled cat—she was calling him by his name. At that moment, something shifted ever so slightly in his eyes.
  • “If you help me out, I’ll fulfill your request,” Diane pleaded again. She would deal with the consequences of her impulses later, for Christopher was her only hope right now. She’d be doomed if he refused to help her.
  • “How dare you keep pestering Mr. Wayne, you brat.”
  • Lena was furious upon seeing this, and she went up to Diane before grabbing the latter’s arm.
  • Meanwhile, Christopher lowered his head once again and stared at the poor kitten who was leaning against his chest. A frown appeared between his brows as he glared coldly at Lena. “Let her go.”
  • Lena jolted in surprise. Christopher didn’t wait another second; he removed Lena’s tight grip around Diane’s arm. Then, he quickly grabbed Diane by her slim arm and took her upstairs.
  • At the end of the corridor was Christopher’s private lounge. As soon as Diane entered the room, she felt her heart speeding up.
  • The lights were off; it made Christopher’s tall, looming shadow look extremely threatening in the dark.
  • Diane no longer had the courage to follow him closely like she did outside; she only stood by the door and kept a distance between them.
  • “I didn’t save your life for you to act like a wooden plank. Come here.”
  • Christopher—who was leading the way—turned around. His long, oval-shaped eyes carried a sense of dissatisfaction. Diane bit down on her lip timidly, inching forward slowly as she stalled for time.
  • What a dumb b*tch—she was pompously throwing a check at my face just two days ago, yet she’s begging me with a pitiful look on her face today. Not only that, she’s acting all reluctant and afraid in front of me right now.
  • Interestingly, she seemed quite familiar with playing hard to get.
  • Christopher took a few strides toward her impatiently. With that, he closed their distance in just a moment.
  • “You should know that I’d never help you out without a condition. Stop showing me this disgusting look on your face from now on.”
  • Christopher pinched her chin as he spoke; the coldness of his fingertips chilled her skin condescendingly along with his words.
  • “Mr. Wayne, I… This is just a piece of cake to you; I’ll be forever grateful for your help, so can you please let me go?”
  • Diane stared at Christopher sincerely with her chin raised. Her eyes were round, and they sparkled innocently at him; one look at her soft and pristine eyes could easily make a man weak… with naughty desires.
  • “Diane.”
  • Christopher leaned in all of a sudden, pressing his face so close to hers that his lips were almost touching her supple ones. He smiled and said eerily, “Do I look like a kind person?”
  • Diane hesitated before she replied, “No, but…”
  • She was about to continue persuading this man who obviously had a corrupt and indecent mind, but she heard noises coming from outside all of a sudden.
  • “Where is she? Check every room—we must find that b*tch. Make sure you look carefully, Norman. As long as we find evidence of her cheating on you, she won’t be able to gain anything from the divorce. Not only that, she even has to pay for compensation.”
  • Elizabeth’s hoarse yet shrill voice sent a shudder up Diane’s spine. In a moment of panic, Christopher ended up pressing her back against the wall.
  • “Are they looking for you? Is it your man?”
  • It wasn’t just her man—her mother-in-law was there as well.
  • Diane was terror-stricken. As her last straw, she looked at Christopher with imploring eyes; her round eyes made her look like a tiny and injured puppy. “Please let me hide here, Mr. Wayne. I’ll be doomed if they find me, and your esteemed reputation will suffer as well.”
  • Elizabeth and Norman came well-prepared; if they were to catch her together with Christopher, Diane wouldn’t be able to get away even with God’s help. When that happened, they could finally kick her out of the family. Not only would they refuse to award her an appropriate amount of alimony, the public’s opinion of her wouldn’t be supportive as well—that was precisely why she couldn’t let them get what they wanted.
  • “My esteemed reputation, you say?”
  • Her words sounded like a joke to him. He chuckled in amusement and said, “In that case, I’d like to see how you’re going to ruin my esteemed reputation.”
  • He reached out a hand and wrapped his fingers around the door handle.
  • The door unlocked with a click, and Diane’s heart shuddered at the sound of that. She whispered, “Don’t.”
  • She begged, but Christopher pulled open the door nonetheless…
