Chapter 112

  • Emerald's gaze locked onto Andrew, her eyes silently demanding an explanation for his choice of words. All he did in response was smile and give a slight nod. She could almost hear him reassuring her to trust him, that everything would be alright.
  • Her attention quickly shifted to Justin, who remained unsettlingly quiet. She glanced at his kneeling form, filled with remorse. She had no idea how he discovered she was in danger, but she felt an overwhelming sadness that he found himself in such a perilous situation—one that could very well lead to his injury.
  • Another deep sigh escaped Emerald as she waited alongside the others for the men sent to retrieve ropes. Groans from Matthew Launch broke the tense atmosphere, and it dawned on her just how badly he was hurt. Stealing a quick glance in his direction, she was met with a gory sight that left her uncertain about his survival. He appeared to be moments from death, with his complexion steadily fading and his neck twisting awkwardly. Signs of a bluish tint marked his head, painting a grim picture of his condition. It was clear that Justin had struck him with considerable force earlier.
