Chapter 9

  • A year later... “Is this how you do your job?! By being such a fucking clumsy?! Do you think I can tolerate this problem you created?! You are fucking fired!” I flinched as I saw on my peripheral vision as to how Sir Sebastian flounced the telephone. I focused my eyes on the monitor and didn’t even take a glance at him. I had to admit that every time Sir Sebastian was being like this, it made my whole system stop thinking rationally and made my nervous system go rampantly. “Cejay.” “Yes, sir?” I answered in instant and left my attention from the monitor so I could spare a glance at my boss who was feeling hot-tempered from the call earlier. “Fucking inform Ms. Perry to cancel all my appointments for today. I am not in the fucking mood right now. Go!” Nodding briskly, I rose in my seat and hastened my pace to leave his office. I carefully closed the door, looking at Ms. Perry who was giving me a blank expression. I calmed myself first before I approached her. “Sir Sebastian informs me to tell you that the appointments for today must be canceled and rescheduled.” Her jaw dropped and gave me an are-you-kidding-me look. I just bowed my head and returned to his office, didn’t wait for Ms. Perry to react to the news I brought. She already knew when Sir Sebastian decided to cancel his appointments at any time. He only decided that when he was not in the mood. Upon entering, I managed to gawk at my boss whose forehead was already meeting together and was ready to fire back if anything was ticking him to bark. He already has done this before to me but I tried my best not to be intimidated even though I could tell that he could hurt anyone. And that includes me. But he never laid his hand on me. Sir Sebastian would just snap on me. Even though he was not in the mood, I still found him handsome and hot, especially when he was wearing his reading glasses. I composed myself before I cleared my throat. “What?” he snapped, glaring at me. I gulped. I felt like I fucked up myself again. “I already informed Ms. Perry.” “So? Go back to your work.” I opened my mouth to say something but I chose to be silent and went to the pantry. One of the reasons why I don’t want Sir Sebastian to be acting like this on me as he was making me his emotional punching bag even though I know he was a little bit. I clenched my fists, calming myself. I should not pent up this emotion I am feeling towards him. This was not healthy for my job. I should understand Sir Sebastian. He was just totally irritated. But the poor messenger of Huntington Inc. has recently fired because of a simple mistake in which I couldn’t just tolerate again. I had to make some words that would surely push him to take back his words even though I haven’t done this beforehand. I decided to make him some tea that would surely calm him. It was one of the things I do whenever he was transforming himself into a dark beast. A chamomile tea that I brought once and made him taste it. He was never a fan of tea but whenever he was in a bad mood, it was perfect to offer him this tea. I closed my eyes for a moment and counted three before opening the door. AA relief gushed inside me when I found his desk empty. I roamed my eyes and looked for him. He was on the balcony. He was yelling again on his phone. That made me smile wryly just as how he could still have his voice box for that kind of yelling. Sighing, I just made my way to his desk and carefully placed down his teacup. I would just inform him later. As I placed the cup, my eyes accidentally laid on the monitor of his computer. He was in his email and was making an email to someone. And I managed to read the last email sent by the sender. Are you keeping an eye on our subject? “Schneizel...” I read out loud the name of the sender, creasing my forehead. Then I read Sir Sebastian’s reply. Yeah. It’s safe and sound. I had never encountered the name of his business colleagues who have a name, Schneizel. Is he a new client? Or an old pal of my boss? “What are you doing?” I froze from my standpoint. My eyes, which were from the monitor of his computer, were transferred to Mr. Huntington who was already near on his desk and leaning on it. His face was dark and was closed to flounce his desk. His menacing, jeopardy eyes were sending daggers on me. I gulped just by seeing his scary and dangerous expression he was exerting right now. That made me step back, feeling guilty when he leaned over and closed the window on his monitor where he exited his emails. Then he towered me. His dark, spine-chilling aura was lingering in his office that made me want to be buried six feet below the ground. < I lowered my head and apologized. “I-I have brought you a-a cup of t-tea, Sir Sebastian,” I stammered. Shit... I should have composed myself before I spoke at him. I would just find myself guilty because of what happened. When I gazed up after I did not hear his response, my heart almost jumped out of my ribcage seeing his intense glance on me and how his eyes looked so dull and void of any emotions. That was my first time seeing this kind of expression from him. I felt like I was on a dead-end right now and couldn’t find an exit. “What did you read earlier?” he asked in his dangerous tone as he stepped forward. I panicked with his intimidated tone. It was my first time I had seen him looking at me dangerously like I am a culprit of something. “I...” I couldn’t find my words. Sir Sebastian had been like this before but I could easily recover and could reply to him in a relaxed manner. But right now was different. “I-It’s an e-email from S-Schneizel, Sir—”“Go back to your work and don’t come here to my desk ever again. No matter what happens. Are we clear, Ms. Merryweather?” he said angrily and pointed to my desk. I blinked, couldn’t react to what just happened. I just found myself nodding at him. My voice was hard to voice out due to the nervousness I was feeling towards Sir Sebastian. “Yes, sir,” I said, somewhat feeling glad because I managed to speak despite the feeling of not wanting to speak anymore. I returned to my work as I felt my knees wobbled. II sat on my swivel chair and focused my eyes on the monitor as I was trying to calm myself from what happened. I felt like I got traumatized. “Cejay.” “Yes, Sir Sebastian?” I turned my head in an instant even though I still hadn’t recovered from what happened just now. All my hair stood up when I looked at him as I saw how intense his stare was. His cold expression remained. I could tell he wasn’t happy today which is very scary. “You are now dismissed for today,” he said in his cold tone and went back to his work. My mouth slightly parted from just what he said. I even thought I was having a delusional dream and couldn’t comprehend what just had happened. I pursed my lips into a thin line. I could feel the stinging sensation I felt on the corners of my eyes. For the first time I started working, I had never shed a tear even though I had experienced failures and mistakes. Even though I resigned last year and I admitted my mistakes, I never shed a tear. But right now, why was it so different? Is he firing me already? Sir Sebastian looked at me impatiently. “What are you still doing here? Didn’t I already say that you are now dismissed?” There was irritation laced on his tone. I took a deep breath and clenched my hands. I shouldn’t be intimidated by his tone and his presence. I had already endured his attitude for over a year and I couldn’t just let myself have a breakdown in front of him. I stood up and grabbed my bag before I faced him. I even met his blazing eyes that pierced my soul. “Does this mean I’m fired?” I asked, bringing all the braveness I have. Speak now, regret later, Cejay. He raised his eyebrow and slightly formed a smirk. “Did I even say you are?” Surprised by his words, I slightly lifted my upper lip. “I thought—”“You thought wrong,” he implied. He showed his megawatt smile that could make women fall in love with him. I couldn’t make a reaction from what he said which earned him a good chuckle. I looked at him weirdly and frowned. “What’s so funny?” I squinted my eyes at him. “You’re funny,” he stated. I just furrowed my forehead from the confusion he said. Why am I being funny? Did I even crack a joke? Then he formed a sly smile maybe because I already looked stupid looking at him. “Now go and dismiss. I’ll see you tomorrow.” I twitched my lips and felt a slight relief gushed inside me. “Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow as well, Sir Sebastian.” I bid goodbye and left his office.
