Chapter 28 – Hope Again

• Zeila swallowed the lump in her throat and looked at the ground, completely embarrassed. She began to sob as her heart was hurting so much. Was this what mating really was? Despair, sadness, and desperation? Or was this a necessary sacrifice in exchange for a huge benefit? What was she going to do about this?
• Her parents were destined to be together and were very happy. Despite his hectic work schedule, her father would always find a way to spend time with her mother and give her a quick hug or kiss. One day he informed her that he needed her to continue being active. Zeila also desired a partner who would feel like he wouldn't live if she wasn't around.
• However, that wish was biased. Her partner continued to turn her down and push her away with adversity. She nearly choked on the sharp anguish that shot through her heart as he turned and left. How could he have such a cold heart? Goddamn, she was his mate! She wiped her tears away quickly, took a deep breath, and her mood quickly returned.
