Chapter 38
- My hands were shaking as I got ready for the ball. Blake would be there and whatever happened, nothing must give me a way not even by one look must I show how much I was hurting. I carefully put on the eye shadow and darkened my lashes even more. I looked critically at my hair in the mirror and unlike the rest of me, it was glowing dark and light tonight. I had swept it up behind my head, soft waves were falling down my shoulders and it added to the charm of my appearance, as I realize there was not a trace of color on my face.
- I slipped my dress over my head and adjusted it before looking at myself again. It was not cream I could not wear cream, not for Blake, not tonight. He had bought me a dress, but I chose not to wear it.
- The dress was a soft pale pink chiffon that swept back over a satin shift of the same color. My shoulders were bare, and I fastened my necklace carefully, my fingers were trembling so much that I took a long time to get it fixed and was just dabbing on perfume when Joe came into my room.
