Chapter 19 You're Lying!

• Once again, I stood there full of questions and fears. Silence spoke louder than a thousand words, and the hope I had of being free finally faded in my hands.
• I knew there was a real person behind Darren, full of feelings and emotions and weaknesses. All I had to do was peel back the layers, learn a key story, and gain enough confidence to walk away.
• It wasn't in my plans to be the second Mila in his life, I understood that Darren's biggest sin was probably being born in the wrong place, with a mother who didn't do her duty and a man who ended up leading him astray. Whatever I did, my job was to pursue a story, a truth, a piece of news. I wasn't a cop, not a detective, and I wasn't going to do it, especially not with him.
