Chapter 13 King Arthur

  • "We're doing just fine," said Wilbur as he chuckled awkwardly. "It's just that we don't plan on having one because of our current situation."
  • Catherine's face flushed upon hearing his words, mortified. She realized that she had been rude.
  • Then again, after Wilbur saved her and Marcus from trouble, she became super curious about his private life for some reason. Hence, she asked those questions without much thought.
  • "Sorry, that was rude of me."
  • "Don't worry about it, Miss Lyon," Wilbur comforted her with a smile.
  • "Please, call me Catherine. We're not here for official business, so let's skip the formalities."
  • Wilbur naturally had to oblige when Catherine had already put it that way.
  • Besides, it was also good that they could be on a first-name basis.
  • "Alright, Catherine it is."
  • Slowly, Wilbur began noticing that she was even prettier in real life.
  • Although she was thirty-five, she didn't look her age since she kept herself in good shape.
  • On the other hand, he looked older than her with his stubble and all.
  • Catherine wasn't tall; she was about five foot two, but she had a great temperament, well-proportioned figure, and delicate facial features.
  • In particular, her eyes were incredibly pretty. Wilbur didn't even dare to look straight at them for too long.
  • "Mom, look at what I drew!"
  • Wilbur and Catherine looked reflexively toward Marcus upon hearing his voice.
  • He came running to them excitedly with a King Arthur action figure in his hand.
  • "Wow, Marcus, that's amazing. You got King Arthur again!"
  • Though Wilbur didn't know what King Arthur meant to Marcus, he could tell from the boy's smile that it meant a great deal to him.
  • Catherine had also mentioned the word 'again', which meant that Marcus often came to draw a prize hoping to get King Arthur.
  • "Of course! They don't call me excellent for nothing."
  • After arriving at the table, the boy gave Wilbur the action figure.
  • "Sir, this is for you."
  • Wilbur smiled at him with slightly furrowed brows in response, but just as he wanted to refuse, Catherine added, "You should just take it since he wants to give it to you. Not everybody gets this privilege."
  • At that, he accepted it and said to Marcus with a smile, "Thanks, Marcus. I'll make sure to take good care of it."
  • "Alright. Can you please be my King Arthur, Sir?"
  • Marcus' request was so unexpected that it stumped Wilbur.
  • However, it was evident from the boy's gaze that he wished Wilbur would say yes.
  • "Sure! I'll be your King Arthur from now on."
  • Elated, Marcus jumped and squealed with joy.
  • After Catherine told him to sit down for his dessert, she leaned closer to Wilbur and whispered, "Ever since my husband died in a car accident, Marcus would always wish for his father to appear and protect him whenever he was bullied or had conflicts with his schoolmates. Hence, the first thing he'd do whenever I bring him here is to go and draw a prize, hoping he'd get King Arthur. You don't have to take his request to heart. I'm sure you don't have the time to mess around with him when you have your family and other stuff to take care of."
  • After hearing Catherine's explanation, Wilbur finally got what this King Arthur action figure meant to Marcus.
  • With that, he said with a smile, "I'm going to be honest with you; my marriage is in discord, so I actually have some free time. Besides, I've already promised Marcus. I have to do as I say, don't I? If I go back on my words, how am I supposed to make a name for myself in my career?"
  • Meanwhile, Catherine's heart rate increased a little after hearing that Wilbur's married life wasn't good. Why was that the case? She had no clue…
