Chapter 22
- I took a deep breath and tried to slow my thudding heart. "Lawrence, take down the trending news right away," I ordered my assistant on the phone. I hung up and drove to the Petes' mansion. Even though I had ordered the news to be taken down, it was already too late. Anger ran through me, held back barely.
- My heart tightened agonizingly, a pain that had become all too commonplace every time I remembered my past. That night. I saw the warehouse burn to the ground right before my eyes, engulfing Ruth and engulfing her in a sea of flames. There was nothing left.
- No body, no skeleton. All that was remaining of my beloved wife were her ashes. She must have died despising me, thinking that I had abandoned her.
