• I faltered, hesitated. I looked at Frank and Lydia and then at them said, "Do you want me to break the news to you people here or do you want it told to you privately?"
• Frank and Lydia shared a look, and after a subtle nod from Lydia, Frank looked at me and said, "As Dad has already said, we are family. You can break the news to everybody."
• "What's the good news, Doctor?" Charles asked. His lips curled into a smile unexpectedly. "Is it what I think it is?"
