- “Ava, you don’t understand,” Lowan’s voice broke through the tense silence, his eyes wild with something I hadn’t seen in him before. Guilt. Pain. “I didn’t want this. I didn’t want you to get involved.”
- I couldn’t breathe, the weight of his words pressing down on my chest. I stepped back, my heart thundering as I tried to make sense of the storm building inside him.
