- An actual real, breathing illustration of Grandpa Smith's wisdom and life experience was his workplace. A huge oak desk crammed with paperwork, shelves stacked with leather-bound volumes, and a lone, warm-looking lamp. He could withdraw and meditate in this room, kind of. Deep mahogany woodwork was given a golden tint by the afternoon sun streaming through the huge windows.
- A soft tap on the door jolted him out of his reverie. After straightening his glasses, he said, "Come in."
- The door creaked open, letting in his dependable helper Dave. Dave was a young man in his early thirties who usually looked well put together and carried himself in a courteous but professional manner. It was mentioned to him politely, "Mr. Smith, there's someone here to see you."
