• Max waited tensely for Marie's answer, his heart racing with a mixture of fear and excitement. Her reply finally arrived after what seemed like an age.
• "Yes," Marie's message said, succinct and direct. "Meet me at the park in an hour."
• Max let out a deep exhale, relieved that she had consented to speak. He got dressed quickly and tried to gather himself before heading to the park where they had shared so many afternoons together in the past.
