- Marie stood in stillness, the words of her grandfather resonating inside her. She knew she still had much to learn, but the disclosure about her parents had left her whirling.
- Her granddad turned away from the window and straight faced her. "Marie, I truly don't want you to probe your parents' deaths any more. The past cannot be altered; it is not something you should weigh upon yourself.
