Chapter 27
- The stillness between them was thick with unspoken feelings as Marie sat in the passenger seat of Dave's vehicle. Her thoughts were consumed by what had happened the previous day as she gazed out of the window and saw the well-known streets pass by in a blur.
- Every now and then, Dave gave her a quick glance, his expression showing concern. In a soft voice, he eventually said, "Marie, are you okay?"
- Marie forced a modest grin as she turned to face him. Her voice strained, "Yeah, I'm okay, Dave," she answered. "Just... a lot on my mind."
