  • "Dice, are you sure this is safe?" Gala asked as he double-checked that his boots were tightly secured. Just beyond the wooden cabin he was standing stretched into a wide, frozen lake. The midday sun cast a warm light on his face, but it wasn’t nearly strong enough to melt the thick sheet of ice.
  • "It’s safe, sir," Dice replied, extending her hand. "Try holding onto me. I won’t let you fall."
  • Gala chuckled. "You know what, Dice?" he said, adjusting the hood over his head and nudging his glasses back up his nose. They weren’t just accessories anymore—these days, they served as both a protective shield and a hidden alert system, always on standby. Around his neck, the die hung safely in place, never far from him. After what he’d witnessed, Gala wasn’t about to let it out of his sight again.
